Then it did hit me that yeah, at that time (2016), ESB was 36 years old... (And then I also recalled what I thought about Forbidden Planet when I went to see STAR WARS at age 14 in 1977.:wah:)
;)

Some years ago, a friend and I were lamenting that "kids these days" didn't watch classic old movies like we did when we were young. Grumble, grumble.

Then we realized we were wrong. Young people were watching vintage movies made long before they were born; it was just that nowadays those movies were THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, THE WRATH OF KHAN, GREASE, etc.

It was sobering to realize that STAR WARS is older today than CASABLANCA was when we were growing up. :)

Well, I have literally been saying all season regarding Spock and Chapel that they were going to twist the knife and tear out our hearts with a smile on their face and a song on their lips. Looks like I was more right than I could have ever guessed.

Well... that depends on how invested in the relationship you are as the viewer. I've found the Spock / Chapel / T'Pring stuff pretty cringeworthy, myself. I just sit through it and press on to the next plot point for the most part.

It still blows my mind to think of where Jess Bush could have taken a whole new character, rather than tethering her to Chapel's sad story.

If Marty went 'back to the future' today, he'd be going back to 1993.

Come discuss “Subspace Rhapsody” in the weekly Trek Zoom in the General Trek Forum today at 9 PM (British Summer Time) / 4 PM (Eastern Daylight Time). Link posted at time of discussion.

Discussion will be 2 hrs, about SNW & more. All are welcome, come and go as you please. Don’t even have to get on camera. :rommie::bolian::cardie::vulcan::klingon::borg:

Indeed. It's a lot of fun. The more the merrier.

A musical with Q is insufferable. No, thanks.

Exactly. And now it is back at a place where if an episode doesn't work next week could work.

Not all Trek is for all people. It's ok to not like sn installment.

He’s the single easiest way to make it happen. His son turned Voy’s engineering into a club.

Also, and this is key, he brings the band.

What a weird episode. I kind of loved it. But I also kinda feel that Star Treks somehow jumped the shark. Conflicted I am.

Campy fun, but it didn't make much sense. It was both cringe and amazing. God only knows how awful a TOS version would have been. I cannot imagine another cast pulling this off.

Perhaps once the initial shock wears off and you watch it again, you'll be more apt to pick up on the intended plot device that causes the singing and the reasons why.
