Ghost Humping for the win!
Then it did hit me that yeah, at that time (2016), ESB was 36 years old...(And then I also recalled what I thought about Forbidden Planet when I went to see STAR WARS at age 14 in 1977.

It was sobering to realize that STAR WARS was older today than CASABLANCA was when we were growing up.![]()
Well, I have literally been saying all season regarding Spock and Chapel that they were going to twist the knife and tear out our hearts with a smile on their face and a song on their lips. Looks like I was more right than I could have ever guessed.
Some years ago, a friend and I were lamenting that "kids these days" didn't watch classic old movies like we did when we were young. Grumble, grumble.
Then we realized we were wrong. Young people were watching vintage movies made long before they were born; it was just that nowadays those movies were THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, THE WRATH OF KHAN, GREASE, etc.

Star Trek is many things but subtle is not one of them.

Discussion will be 2 hrs, about SNW & more. All are welcome, come and go as you please. Don’t even have to get on camera.![]()
Haha. No. Please, do not presume to speak for "everyone".It’s just a missed opportunity.
The right place in Trek for a musical episode was season six or seven of TNG, with Q and Lwxana Troi, and everyone, deep down, knows that.

I will not make the joke I’m thinking of….Ghost Humping for the win!
A musical with Q is insufferable. No, thanks.
Exactly. And now it is back at a place where if an episode doesn't work next week could work.
Not all Trek is for all people. It's ok to not like sn installment.
... Listened to the soundtrack again driving home frim work and, man, I just love it!
I just love the.... "Trekness" of the lyrics singing about sciency, mathematical, ship-systems stuff and fellowships. *lol* it's just great!
Curious. Which part?but it didn't make much sense
Perhaps once the initial shock wears off and you watch it again, you'll be more apt to pick up on the intended plot device that causes the singing and the reasons why. What a weird episode. I kind of loved it. But I also kinda feel that Star Treks somehow jumped the shark. Conflicted I am.
Campy fun, but it didn't make much sense. It was both cringe and amazing. God only knows how awful a TOS version would have been. I cannot imagine another cast pulling this off.
