Not a hypocrite, just confused and conflicted. Like most people, especially where emotions are concerned.
Humans are illogical creatures.
Yeah. I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge fan of him in his season one finale appearance, but he’s really grown on me.I will say this. Paul Wesley finally sold me on his version of Jim Kirk. His conversation with La'an about Carol was spot on.
I'm still trying to figure out when Star Trek became only serious business and never fanciful space adventure. 'Cause I seem to recall Balance of Terror existing side by side with Trouble with Tribbles, and Mudd's planet with a bunch of duplicate androids. As opposed to the Robin Hood episode, the Halloween episode, the Jack the Ripper episode, or, on a more dramatic note, the time Sisko slipped into the Twilight Zone and became a 1950s sci-fi writer?
Trek gets fanciful sometimes. It always has.

I don’t really want him to become a regular because we have such a strong ensemble and so few episodes to spend with them, but if the show goes long enough that we get to see him take over the center seat, I’ll be happy to see him there.

he’s grown on me too, but it feels
Like he’s gotten more focus this season than Erica has and she’s a main character.
I'm just still not seeing Kirk in him.
He's a fine actor and all but he's just missing the charisma and charm of classic Kirk. Hell, the guy playing Sam feels more like a Jim Kirk.
TOS had some stinkers, some *real* stinkers, as did TAS, TNG, DS9 (as a Niner, I have to admit this), VOY, ENT, and the modern treks.I don’t fault people for not liking it - everyone has their tastes - but yea there are a subset of people who only think Trek can be one thing (usually clouded by nostalgia). Like I’ve seen people argue that every classic trek episode was a high quality morality play and ..well…nope. But they’re mainly just having memories of the better or classic episodes in my opinion.

The elephant in the room for this episode is of course Buffy's 'Once More With Feeling'. If you're going to do an episode where magical forces make serious people sing their inner truths, that is the gold standard.
In terms of emotional themes it's basically the same thing. And it's just not as good.

Now that's what I call "K-Pop", lol
