Good character development episode. Another 7,

Great to see Pike meeting Kirk and Kirk meeting Spock, introduced by Uhura.

Man, Pike's Enterprise is massive inside compared with Kirk's.

Annoyed that the writer’s (or is it the special FX artists) still cannot figure out what a stellar nebula is like. And no, not because of the alien thing.

This one is one of the worst examples of showing a stellar nebula as an object as dense as the atmosphere of a planet.
Only this time they sprinkled in pretty lights of the size of Christmas baubles indicating that it’s a stellar nursery.

why is it so difficult to show the nebulae as big light year spanning backdrops instead of colorful mist swirling around the ship?
By showing the nebula in all directions it should be pretty clear that they are inside it.
But even though it’s called a nebula full of gas, the density is still orders of magnitude below a planetary atmosphere and you wouldn’t see any of it close by.

rant over!

episode was pretty good.

So the Brothers Kirk have a hard time living up to the Old man's Legacy.
One is. The other is using it as a bench mark.

To some degree. Bob Orci said that he believed that Kirk and Spock's first meeting was also after Kirk cheated on the Kobyashi Maru at the Academy in the Prime Timeline. Yet as Spock and Kirk make no reference to such a meeting in this episode and act like they never met before, this is clearly not the case.
He was wrong and is "no longer with the company."

Was she dead? She looked pretty bloody but I thought she was just injured. Anyway, seems like they could've had more than a couple of people looking for that maniac-- seemed to be plenty of people in the bar.
She was shrouded in sick bay, so dead

Not impressed with the security response to the escaped lunatic. Are they out of redshirts?

And is it really that unsafe to fire a phaser set to stun in the nacelle?
Some times it's a TV show with a budget. But I did think the same.
Phasers work at the need of the plot.

Might be my favourite episode from S1 and 2 combined.

Loved how it gave some more background to Uhura and her neuroses at a young age, built on the friendship she had with Hemmer, showed how much Hemmer meant to other crew with Una and Pelia's discussion, and thought Kirk worked really well as the support for Uhura

Also we now have the canonical "when he was made fleet captain" meeting

Great episode of a great show

An okay episode. Basically a weaker version of Night Terrors. I don’t think the James Kirk stuff was necessary, although, it did want me to see more about their dad.
The big one is next week. Already watched the clip. Can’t wait

P+ is weird.
The episode pops up for a second or two then goes away.
P+ is beyond weird for me. Again the app on my Fire TV did not work even after clearing the cache twice and force quitting it twice. I had to watch it on my iMac. For some reason, captions are not available when watching in a web browser even though they are available on the TV app. No other app on my TV gives me this much trouble.

If I were La’an I’d be all over that security officer
in sickbay for missing such a close shot. This is Starfleet security, not the Stormtroopers. That’s two avoidable deaths.

They know this guy is seriously mentally unstable and they have him sitting there, unrestrained, in easy reach of various medical instruments, and close to an open door with no security detail flanking it. Also, given that everyone knew Uhura was hallucinating, it made no sense to give her a phaser and have her running all over the ship with it.
“I’ll be fine; I promise.”
“Okay, take your phaser and go back to sickbay all by yourself. Hopefully you won’t kill anyone during another hallucination.”
“Hey, he went this way!”
“Wait for me; I’m on the way.”
<disobeys direct order from superior officer and this action doesn’t even prevent anyone’s death or damage to the ship and doesn’t get reprimanded, either, so it was for nothing and had no consequences>

Everything else was great, so I’m going with 8 for this one.
