It's been a while since I've seen it, but IIRC Spock clearly states that he has not seen her since childhood. Which is in direct contradiction to SNW and would imply further that nobody on the TOS Enterprise has ever seen or heard of T'Pring before. It's basically a straight-up retcon if SNW and TOS are the same timeline.

I'm going to go watch Amok Time. Right now.
No he never states that explicitly AT ALL in TOS s2 Amok Time. When he is explaining aspects of Vulcan Ponn Far, he tells Kirk that he and T'Pring were betrothed in a ceremony when they were both 7 years old. Spock never explicitly says in the episode that he has not seen her at all since that ceremony.

Yes, he does look at a picture of her from when she was 7 years old, but I don't think you can say that at any point in that episode that Spock himself is in his right mind; so who knows why he decided to look at that particular picture of her.

even if Amok Time had clearly stated that they haven’t seen each other since they were children…would it matter. The producers have made it pretty clear that they will ignore what came before if it helps them tell the story they want to tell.

Remember that IDIC is a philosophy that Surak exposed. So yes it's an ideal that many Vulcans want to aspire to, but few probably do.

( I could give you some examples of Jesus teachings that certain Christians will acknowledge when confronted with them , but seem to either ignore or forget about them in certain situations, but I don't want to get political in this thread.)
Couldn't we all.

I think Roddenberry wanted to appeal to the 60's yoots, ;)

I loved this one. It was hilarious but also really moving.
I want that to be the SNW tag line!

But my favorite parts of the episode were the scenes with Spock and his mother. I love the way he stood up for her and finally understood all she had endured.
I have mixed feelings about this: It's terrific. Really. But it also short circuits a bit of both Journey to Babel and Star Trek IV. WAY more if you take the novel of ST4 into account at all.

Yes. And this isn't "Canon is too hard" this is "We know and we don't care. It will be fun!"

He had a catalog and he wanted to sell stuff. ("Did you say... 'yoots'?")

No he actually just wanted to sell some costume jewelry from the show. * -and no I'm not kidding.

The story goes that Leonard Nimoy refused to wear the piece of jewelry on his costume, unless there was a story reason for why he was doing so.

So Gene Roddenberry came up with IDIC and the backstory that Spock gave for it in the episode.

The IDIC medallions were pure capitalist marketing, nothing more, nothing less. Gene just managed to attach a philosophical meaning to the symbol to give it in-universe weight and a legacy. But he was all about the dollar signs, make no mistake about it.

I watched it today, and I just skimmed the transcript. Spock never says if he’s seen her since the ceremony when he was 7.

Here's an honest take..
Loved the episode, but wish they took it the other way, made him a full Vulcan.
Still be some humor but show the totally logical Spock .. Piss off everybody.. Get along with Tprings mom, but Tpring and chapel don't like the new full version.

I must a

I must admit you’ve piqued my curiosity, but I don’t want to go off topic.

I love that they made him fully human because honestly over the past 59 years, Spock himself as acted more like a full Vulcan then many other full Vulcans they've had in the franchise; so yeah I'm happy they took the character a direction we have never seen before.

Accepted.

She has no comment in dialog about T'Pring.

We saw him beat up people in the Kelvin universe over her. But the way the story was told, it still came as a surprise because it looked like the deceit was successful. Then BOOM! Off go the ears and a speech that was far more calm and respectful than T'pring's mom deserved.

This writing staff is REALLY on their game.
