Possibly a common nickname that had been in circulation for some time that they decided to make official? Pike could have been making a joke that it had already caught on but that Starfleet giving it official blessing would make it "uncool".

I like that.

We see Archer in Enterprise pondering Starfleet adopting some sort of "Prime Directive" so chronologically the phrase has already been used way before the 2250s, though not in the same specific context.

He said, "some sort of a doctrine", then referred to it later as a "directive", no "prime".

At this point, I have to take the show as a soft reboot, which is fine. It does seem strange though, that they're purporting it to be a prequel when there are mounting unnecessary niggling little call-forwards that sort-of-but-don't-quite tie in to TOS.

Spock's actions here undoubtedly would have come up in 'The Menagerie', when he does the same again, but everyone (including Uhura) is shocked and all, "There's no way Spock could do anything like this!"

I just did a quick text search of a fan transcript of Menagerie and I don't see any dialogue of Uhura saying anything like that at all. Unless it was a facial reaction...

Yes, I was thinking of her non-verbal surprise when he surrenders to McCoy and admits that he never received orders to take command. That one is a reconcilable nit pick of the, "Well, I guess Chapel was just surprised at hearing Spock refer to T'Pring as his wife", variety, but they're starting to mount up.

Can't believe I am writing this but I now wish new Trek was a reboot just for this Spock/Chapel ship to continue, Pike to be saved from that chair and Nurse Chapel to not revert back to that 1960's TOS stereotype. Or better yet not name the character Nurse Christine Chapel!

That one is a reconcilable nit pick of the, "Well, I guess Chapel was just surprised at hearing Spock refer to T'Pring as his wife", variety, but they're starting to mount up.

Given that this series hadn't been filmed yet in 1966, I don't think there would be a way for Uhura to act that way in TOS. And TOS wasn't exactly a continuity poster child to begin with. For that, I'm grateful that they were interested in story first.

Yep. And then the bizarre fascination over Romulan cloaking devices in Season 3 when they'd already dealt with them in Season 1 and encountered cloaked Romulan Bird-of-Preys firing at the Enterprise in "The Deadly Years" in Season 2.

There is one possible continuity issue here. The Vulcan harp is already in Spock's quarters when Michael visits the Enterprise in Season 2 of DSC and is also visible in SNW Season 1, though his quarters now look radically different on the inside.

Was it Spock's all along and he just used it as a wall decoration to display his Vulcan heritage and M'Benga retrieved it from Spock's quarters when he wasn't looking? He never plays it until now?

Could be. People have instruments in their home that they hardly play or don't play that well. Maybe M'Benga was encouraging Spock to resume an old hobby or start a new one to help his emotional health.

So now with all the sexual tension between Spock and Chapel happening right in front of M'Benga, one has to wonder if that scene in TOS where M'Benga orders Chapel to slap Spock around was some kind of sick joke on his part.
