I've said it before and I'll say it again: Christine being able to beat up a Klingon after taking a performance-enhancing drug is no worse than Kira being able to beat up Klingons and Jem'Hadar three times her size on the regular on Deep Space Nine.
Or Dax on DS9 routinely standing up to Klingon Dahar Masters. ;)

This is a rather assholish comment (and especially insensitive to those who have difficulty conceiving). But, you know, if an actor having a family somehow inconveniences the viewers, we’ll…how dare they?
Audience must come first.

Stsrfleet would be an organization that WOULD use uppers and stimulants. No way would the prudishness of any one member species override the more traditionally combat-oriented and martial societies who valued peak physical efficiency in life-threatening situations.

Even the Beatles popped uppers in their Hamburg nightclub days.

All of this.

Don't give me that "lazy writing" crap because some bit of made-up trivia jars your expectations - because that's all this kvetching is.
Agreed.

I thought the fight went on too long. I thought there probably was another way to get them to where they needed to be to do the things they needed to do and still dramatically eject themselves into space so we could have an emotional denouement. I assume (no evidence) that showrunners wanted to open the season with action before getting into the more cerebral courtroom drama. That being said...

I'm watching a show where people can beam their bodies across vast distances. I come prepared to suspend disbelief. If you are incapable of doing so then why watch this kind of show?

Yes really no returns back!

I wonder if you local doctor and nurse get into fist fights with a MMA fighters and win.
Depends, What are the backgrounds of my local Doctor and nurse. Are they combat veterans with a martial art background? Did they finance their educations by participating in fight clubs? Being medical professions isn’t the disqualifier you seem to think it is.

"Superior ability breeds superior ambition."

From a world-building perspective, you don't think it's a bit inconsistent that you've introduced a drug that Starfleet personnel take to have artificial superior abilities, and in the very next episode you have one of the main characters on trial by the same organization for having artificially induced superior abilities?

Beyond being a bit silly, my main objection is that this doesn't fit well with everything else. Yes, you can point to other silly things, other fictional drugs, other magic tech. But that doesn't make this good writing because other stupid shit has made it to screen, especially since it's not consistent with the Federation we've seen over the course of a half-century of episodes where it's about the ability of humanity and idealistic human values to overcome.

You seem to think it’s something approved by Starfleet and the Federation and is in common use.

The changes in this episode weren't permanent and didn't last very long.

No. I think it reflects real life.
