not for me. She pretty much stayed in background for over a year, was explored a bit and then died stupidly.

You care for those random redshirts?
look at their post: tasha’s name is hardly the only thing spelled incorrectly.
Again...if someone is claiming a character is so "memorable"...

Maybe it's because I grew up watching episodic TV, but Ariam wasn't all that different than the guest crewperson of the week on previous Trek shows who die during an episode. Ones who are long time crew members but we only see that one time. The ony real difference is she was there in the background instead of just popping up to die.
Not finding her death particualry stupid. Died hoping to save her crewmates.

Not sure he's talking about redshirts. More like Joe Tormolan, Gary Mitchell, Elizabeth Dehner or Lt. Tomlinson

My favourite TOS episode so I loved all the little nods to the original. Ortegas, in particular, struck a chord. While clever, it lacked all the pathos of the original, save perhaps Spock's fate. Kirk seemed a little dead behind the eyes compared to his reaction in BoT.

I enjoyed Scotty's cameo but it would have been nice to see a few more or spot a blonde beehive in the background.

Kirk dead around the eyes was due to Paul Wesley lifeless acting. Peck spock was almost as bad I think peck may need a vocal coach. Quinto would have done better reciting nimoy lines from BOT.

To be fair, the story is told from Pike's perspective so we don't see Kirk's inner turmoil but I certainly am not getting classic Kirk vibes the way I get Uhura vibes from Gooding. That said, his performance might be closer to TMP Kirk. Overconfident, more driven, needing his own shortcomings pointed out to him etc.

I could see him fronting a TMP era spin off but it seems a bit soon to contemplate that.

Yes. There are some episodes I skip because of how it hits, but the ending of Balance of Terror always hits hard.
Well, those guys were a bit more than redshirts

again, if someone is having trouble spelling stuff…

pretty much.

This Kirk was a lot more like TOS Kirk describes himself as a Cadet at Starfleet Academy and a young officer. More rigid, stern and serious with less joviality about the universe around him. Which hints that without the experience of commanding the Enterprise and befriending Spock, McCoy, Scotty and the other officers he'll more or less remain the "stack of books with legs" even into his thirties and holding a Captain's rank.

How so? Tomlinson in particular barely has any lines so no history established. No life with the crew. So his death shouldn't matter.
yeah, I already forgot who that is. See how much he matters to me.

Having 3 brothers I can tell you how my brother describes me and how I act are not identical.
the point was that if they wanted to make that point they wouldn’t have described Kirk as brash in episode

Maybe? I don't know. As I said, in my experience, how things are described by family members vs. reality or how I conduct myself in different situations are two completely different things.

Maybe others get described perfectly by their siblings. I don't know. I just know that when it comes to sibling descriptions of other siblings I do not take it as strictly literal.

The issue is that Paul Wesley did not convey rigid, stern and serious with less joviality. I do wonder what happened he was not too bad in vampire diaries, although he was always kind of outshined in the show by the actor who played his brother Damon Salvatore.

Finally managed to watch this today ( Thanks paramount..), Easily my favourite episode of Star Trek since its revival in the streaming age.

A Homage to one of my favourite episodes of the original series as well as lacing it themes of other what if stories like Yesterdays enterprise and its a wonderful life.

Not entirely sold on the new Kirk but its been one episode so I’m happy to give him a bit of slack and see how he goes for later appearances.

"They hit us at extreme range" my brother in christ it was a point blank shot. CG guys were getting that last episode DONE and didn't give a fuck what was in the script.

No, it's more like they wanted it to look cool.
Same thing happened earlier in the season with the scale of some objects.

Her death is a punchline.

If it was TNG Unification part 1 and 2 would never have happened.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasha_Yar#Reception_and_commentary

I will wait forever to see the same kind of reception and commentary of Airam or Hemmer as Tasha Yar gets in the trek lore.

Also going by critical reception reviews of yersterday's enterprise as Chicago times put it, she had a heroes death.

Airam I don't think has been mentioned again in Discovery.
As for Hammer we will see what they do but SNW will likely follow the pattern of Discovery not TNG.
