I'd presume it's a "special treatment" they give "Augments." But even how Burnham's prison experience looked in Ep2 of DSC looked out of place/tone for this future Earth/The Federation. You'd think for even theist severe cases even in the case of crimes in Starfleet imprisonment would be very sociable, livable and not something with aspects of cruelty.
Burnham loves misery. In the middle ages she would have been a flagellant.

Tom Paris got off with relatively light manual labor while Dr. Bashir's father went to the same facility for three years just for having his son genetically modified and decades earlier.

I mean, I don't think I've see the penal colonies or treatment facilities as being very positive. Maybe that's because they were always taken over by the inmates.

Prison is a form of Punishment, no matter what Century it's in.
It is not supposed to be fun or particularly enjoyable.

But, One would hope that by the 23rd Century most would be called and used as "Rehabilitation Centers" rather than places to lock away and forget habitual criminals.

Also, by then, first time offenders would probably not be incarcerated unless they had committed a heinous crime of purposeful murder and/or are actually a danger to themselves and others.

And you still got it wrong, it's March 23rd, not 24th. :)

And your correction of me is also wrong. It's actually March 22nd, not the 23rd.

I actually have a subconscious reason for accidentally typing March 24th instead of the correct 22nd - March 24th was my mother's birthday, and as a child, it amused me that her birthday fell right between Shatner's and Nimoy's on the calendar. Now, that I'm getting old and the brain is going, my fingers want to type March 24 instead of the correct March 22 in connection to Kirk's (and Shatner's) birthday. [These days, I also find myself doing the same thing with Nimoy's March 26th birthday. I have to mentally correct and add two to the March 24 that my fingers want to type.]

Moral of the story ... Don't Get Old!

welcome to the club :techman:

His badge has me curious as to where he's serving in Season 2. Farragut was shown to use the E Delta in Ep.10 The Outposts have the Fish Delta. His is a third design.
I'm guessing they decided after filming Season 1 to give it a unique badge.

Leonard Nimoy, Mark Lenard, Tim Russ and Gary Graham were the only actors who could convincingly play a Vulcan. I never liked Jolene Blalock's portrayal of T'Pol and Zachary Quinto just does't have the dead serious facial expression he would need to play a Vulcan. Something that Ethan Peck is getting better at, and he also has the voice!
Gary Graham never did a Vulcan convincingly for me (and I like ENT a lot); he played him way too emotional for him to be considered a full Vulcan (unless he had Vulcan Bendis syndrome).

Even Archer pointed out to Soval's annoyance that he'd been on Earth too long, displaying heated emotions.

If Pike is never promoted or never accepts the promotion, why would he meet Kirk in 2264 or when ever the transfer of command took place?

It was stated that Kirk took command when Pike had his accident. And that happened in the original timeline.

To quote Kirk in Court Martial:

"But that's not the way it happened."

Kirk met Pike when he was promoted and didn't learn of the accident until The Menagerie.

In the changed timeline he met Kirk as we saw in this episode.

Do you remember where or who stated that "Kirk took command when Pike had his accident"? After Spock's mind-meld with Pike he assumed that someone else would captain the Enterprise because of Pike's accident. Spock would have no way to know that in actual TOS that Jim Kirk would meet Pike during Pike's promotion before the accident or that Kirk didn't take command due to Pike's accident.

If it were to go down like in TOS then SNW Kirk should somehow avoid meeting Pike until he gets a promotion and then they can have interaction. So maybe SNW Pike gets promoted to fleet captain in S2 to jump start the interaction.

From "A Quality of Mercy"
SPOCK: The accident in question was six months ago. In this timeline, there were no cadets at the reactor incident to save. No one was even hurt.
PIKE: I need your help, Spock. I was sent forward to this moment in time for a reason. We have to figure out why.
SPOCK: I would posit that in this present, you were never injured in the training accident, thus you remained captain of the Enterprise, putting you in charge at a crucial moment in the ship's existence.
PIKE: A moment where the whole future hangs in the balance.
SPOCK: All we can surmise is that, in the prime future, some other captain of the Enterprise must have commanded it differently. Thus, it is imperative you do not change what you would normally do on the ship.
PIKE: I thought we were trying to avoid a terrible future.
SPOCK: We are trying to discover why this future is, in the estimation of your older self, worse...

and from "The Menagerie"
MENDEZ: You ever met Chris Pike?
KIRK: When he was promoted to Fleet Captain.
MENDEZ: About your age. Big, handsome man, vital, active.
KIRK: I took over the Enterprise from him. Spock served with him for several years.
SPOCK: Eleven years, four months, five days.
MCCOY: What's his problem, Commodore?
MENDEZ: Inspection tour of a cadet vessel. Old Class J starship. One of the baffle plates ruptured.
MCCOY: The delta rays?
MENDEZ: He went in bringing out all those kids that were still alive. Just wanted you gentlemen to be prepared.

In the original time line Pike didn't know his fate. In that timeline Captain Burnham was dead. This time line was created by Professor Burnham, which allow different events to take place.
In this timeline Pike could easily offer James Kirk the First Officer position on the Enterprise, that if he decides to give up command of the Farragut.

No, none of that is true.

These shows are/were prequels, they lead into the later shows. So whatever alterations to the timeline DSC stories made in Season 2, help create the timeline we see in TOS.

SNW is in the same timeline we see in TOS, or will lead into the same timeline if they do more time travel.
