Not the Academy, but it didn't happen until he was on Earth in 2261 for whatever reason he was on Earth that year.

Correct. It was explicitly stated in "This Side of Paradise" that Spock's relationship with Leila Kalomi , such as it was, was six years prior to the events of that episode, thus 2261 . . . or, if SNW follows a one year per season rule, we shouldn't explore that until SNW Season Three.

Another solid episode. At first, I thought it was a one off, but this show is really trying to stay true to what Trek is all about. It is far from “great” but considering Picard and (especially) Discovery, it appears it has an actual potential for building a solid fanbase.
This is @BreadfanV43 ’s only post, and s/he already has a line through his/her name? I’m curious about what happened.

late review (plus SNW subforum has tended to be so toxic I tend to avoid it). i haven't had time or access to see anything until now. This was a 10. this is trek at its best. I have much to say but I suppose anything I could have said has already been said.

It really hasn't been. It's way less toxic than the Picard and Discovery ones.
probably true, but that has been my impression. I tend to make those situations worse. I lurked this forum for over a decade. I am better at reading than interacting :)

To quote E.B. White, "say it anyway."

This reminds me of the unwritten code of another forum that I frequent - read more, write less. The idea is that there is more to be gained by reading, understanding, and processing before you contribute yourself and that it should encourage a better quality of discourse.

I think I could have bought this version of Kirk more easily if they hadn’t had Sam underscore the pop-culture image of Kirk. The dialogue and portrayal just didn’t line up. If anything, they could have used Sam’s scene to set the stage for the alternate timeline Kirk we saw — driven, businesslike and a bit demanding. Throw in that he’s a new captain trying to prove his chops or something. That I could reconcile with TOS.
His brother would have bias, both positive and negative. Plus, he knows the 'real' Jim Kirk. This alt-Kirk was possibly reigning himself in a little in the presence of Pike, who he'd at least know by reputation.

To which I can only say, what's wrong with The Timeless Child? ;)
