I'd hate to be the person telling someone who's finally being represented in Star Trek after more than 50 years that their happiness is dumb because they're just 0.1% of the population where they live.
It was pretty subtle. I didn't see it until others were talking about it here. I think it's getting to the pandering point and no longer feels genuine in some tv shows and movies. This ep did it subtly which was more natural than say STD. On STD they pound the message over our heads and its obvious.
