The voice and shape of his face seemed like they'd gotten Armin to come back to Trek for a supporting role.

I don't know. There were some differences. How they carry themselves. Their vocal stylings. T’Pring is a little more soft spoken than Spock and Ethan Peck and Gia Sandhu played that off well I thought.

The actors certainly did a good job with what they were given. The differences were just too subtle IMO. Body swaps are funny IMO because of the characters being very out of character. For example, SG1 did a great body swap ep where Teal'c and O'Neil swap bodies. Seeing Tealc who is the stoic warrior type suddenly be the wise cracking O'Neil is very funny.

I really enjoyed that so I gave it a 10. It was a nicely paced episode with comedic moments that didn't feel out of place.

I want to play Enterprise Bingo! I loved Una and La'an' reaction to just what the hell it all was.

I enjoyed seeing T'Pring again, and the hijinks (I loved Spock's use of the word hijinks) that happened after the Katra swap.

The alien race was pretty cool this week, coming to the Enterprise for negotiations. I liked how they played the TOS theme when they showed the Federation flag a the end as well.

The fight theme playing from Amok Time was a cool moment. I also noticed that Ethen Peck is strangely hot. I'm going to start needing cold showers before I watch. :shifty:

I keep bracing myself for SNW to lose the winning streak it's been on, but this is another great episode!

The body swap thing could've been cheesy, but it wasn't.

The way Pike figured out and handled the R’Ongovians (and incorporated the concept of "radical empathy") was excellent in a "Star Trek captain" kind of way.

"Enterprise Bingo" was fun (and those of you biting your nails over whether it's bingo or a scavenger hunt make me want to smack your faces like Chapel did Spock's). The final scene with the solar ship was nicely awe-inspiring in a way we haven't seen in Trek for a while now.

The only negative was not getting enough time with M'Benga, but I appreciated the little peek into his personality that we did get.

This was a straight 10 for me.

No, there weren’t any big galaxy-threatening plots or serious life or death situations for our characters. There didn’t have to be. This was just simple storytelling done in a way that is smart, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and natural. The humour is actually funny and not forced. The balance between each of the plots and characters is well struck. The chemistry between actors is apparent.

This show just has “it.”

All the characters are engaging. The writing is competent and stylish. The music is AMAZING.

It’s simply the best package Star Trek has put together in a very long damn time. You can feel the heart and soul of every episode; it’s clear, distinct, and appealing. This is phenomenal stuff we’re seeing.

Jess Bush continues to knock it out of the park as Chapel. What a brilliantly written and acted character they have with her. Just a scene stealer. Impressive given she’s still pretty much an acting novice at this point in her career, although if she keeps this up she’ll have no shortage of future opportunities.

I am not suggesting SNW do some silly onesie. I agree what Jake wore was great. I want something like that! It worked for me because the colors and style did not look too contemporary. The civilian outfits that Ortega and Chapel wear clearly look like street clothes people wear today. It just takes me out of the show. That's just me of course.
They have done the same on Picard. They went back to zippers, jeans, work boots, belts and collared button shirts that can all be bought at Walmart. It does take me out of the show to. The think that TOS did right was to make civilian clothing seem futuristic. Same with TNG, DS9 and STV. I guess they just don't have the budget to design cool looking 23rd century civilian clothing.

T'Pring looked a lot different in TOS S2 - "Amok Time"...:shrug::whistle:
^^^
(Yes - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

Look at TOS S1 - "The Menagerie" now. I mean hell, if Uhura served with Pike as we're now seeing - you'd think she'd be more interested in saying SOMETHING to him/visiting him once she knows he's been beamed aboard the Enterprise when Spock addresses the crew; and she's there on the Bridge when Spock says to McCoy he's just to take good care of Fleet Captain Pike.
I don't technically think there is an issue with either.

In the Menagerie, Pike doesn't seem to be wanting visitors when we first meet him. His trauma might make him very upset it seeing sympathy from others (It happens quite often in real life). When he comes aboard there are orders to leave him alone. Now that might be from being kidnapped, bu that would be difficult for Chris to express, there could absolutely be an aspect of that choice due to Spock being aware that Pike doesn't want company. And after that we only see him in the trial. That trial doesn't seem to have an audience we see only the required personnel for the proceedings. The judges, Scotty running the tapes, Spock, and McCoy (I assume to monitor Pike) and security forces for the prisoner.

We don't see Pike for all the time he is on board the Enterprise. AS such who knows what occurred during the hours where we the audience don't see him. There is a hue amount of time that Uhura or Chapel could visit Pike. In fact for it to be even an issue we would have to have dialogue that specifically states that Uhura never went to see Pike. No such dialogue exists in Trek. And even if she did state that, of course there is a possibility he didn't want visitors and she choose to respect his wishes. So there has never been an issue with this.

Now with Amok Time, Spock never describes T'Pring as his wife to her. And I assume she is shocked because Spock has (under the influence expressed desire for her). She very well might be surprised that's the case, if he was a married man, versus one who isn't yet married.

Another one during this episode (for me) was the mentioning of the Romulans, and I thought at this time the Federation hadn't had contact with them (which they hadn't), but I forgot this information was provided by the race that they were in negotiating with. We have no dialogue indicating that the Romulans didn't go outside their territory or have diplomatic relations with non Federation worlds. Or for that matter, this race might have just been lying and throwing the name Romulans out there to strengthen their hand.

5 episodes in for me this is easily the best start to any Trek series 8 or higher across the board

For a body swap to work, the characters have to be very different because the comedy comes from them acting out of character. We did not get that here since both are Vulcans.

There were clearly differences in the way they behaved, but they were subtle and weren't ratcheted up for the sake of comedy. Look at the way they hold their hands/arms. Their voice tone and inflections are different.

The writers also jokingly reference the fact that the differences between their behaviors are hard for others to see when T'Pring/Spock tells Pike, "Now that you know you can likely tell the very clear differences in our mannerisms."

They weren't going for "Freaky Friday" type comedy here.
