Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Ugh.

So I ordered the Antares NCC-9844, and the three Excelsior prototypes. I've never bought an EM ship before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, the first thing was that they sent me two of the same model (the 'Alka-selsior') even though it's clearly printed on the packing list that I had ordered three separate Excelsior prototype ships. So I'm still missing one. The second thing is that none of the models contained magazines. And the last thing (and maybe someone in the know can fill me in on this) is that the cardboard boxes these models come in are very small and don't seem to have a top, so all you get is the clear plastic insert holding the ship, and the bottom of the box. There isn't even any plastic wrap to hold anything in place. Is this normally how EM packages their ships?

No, they should all have a top made of the same clear vacuformed plastic as the bottom piece to hold everything in place. If yours didn’t have this, it’s definitely missing. Every one I have is like this and I own the complete set.

Sorry. To clarify, they did have both the top and bottom vacuformed pieces. But because there’s no box top, everything would just fall out if I turned the box upside down.

Oh! I misunderstood. Yes, all the main line ships are like that. The specials, XL’s, and shop exclusives, however, (which are marked as such on the site) are in a self-enclosed box and a little more secure.

I didn't get any magazines with my delivery the other day so apparently those are hit and miss now. I'm not too concerned but they really should update the website to indicate this or at least email us a PDF.

Subscribers were sent an email their missing ships may ship but without a magazine due to a paper shortage but I never received anything like that since I ordered from the store.

Personally I prefer the standard style boxes over the newer ones. They just take up so much more room for little gain.

^^^ This.
Were any of the four ships I ordered supposed to come with a magazine?
All those models should come with a magazine. I recently got the first two Excelsior concept models (152 & 158) and they came without magazines. I had to reorder them from eBay, which is the only way to get them reliably now.

I only got 1 magazine of the stuff I ordered and thats because it was one of the newer “collectors editions”.

Even the shuttle set was missing the magazines which surprised me.

A fair while ago Ben was asking if people would like an XL Aventine. I guess that ship has well and truly sailed. (Pun partially intended?) Bummer.

Really? Which shuttle set are you referring to?

I just got #7 last month and it had magazines in it. Waiting on #8 which is in the mail right now.

Weird. I got magazines with those (minis). Can't remember, but I think they were also doing MSD inserts for the early shuttle sets back then as well. Pics of the included magazines can be seen starting here.

I got an email that the D5 tanker was available, so I went to the site and switched to the Canadian version. The model still showed as available, but when I went to the checkout, it said not available in your country. I really wish they'd sort that out.

Just for the heck of it I emailed Customer Service about the missing mags…why buy them off eBay if I can get them for free as I was supposed to.

I got the expected response, no matter how old the product is, if I didn’t get a magazine in the box I wouldn’t be getting one. But that they would be updating all the product pages to remove mentions of the magazine and updating the digital page so you could view/download online if you wanted.
