Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Looks like they are doing a “clean out the warehouse” sale. Buncha stuff 50% off. I may finally grab the Delta Flyer.

Thanks for the heads up. Usually only things like the Disco Klingon ships are heavily discounted. I was surprised to see DS9 for 50% off. I usually concentrate on Starfleet stuff, but bagged this.

- Oh, no! Why did I have to see this!! To quote Markonian:
My wallet: "Le sigh."

- Fantastic! I got the Disco Klingon Bird of Prey and the Raider for £10 each (instead of £40 each) - they're such beautiful designs (I can't equate them to being 'Klingon', but I don't care). I also got the ring ship Enterprise XCV-330 for half price. Ka-ching!

Hmmmm....I'm so tempted with the 25-50% discount. I ignored it at first because the standard price is displayed and I failed to realise it shows up discounted in the basket.

Haven’t had a look at the Jupiter station yet. The two stand thing sounds interesting. Also sounds like it could be a pain as well.

I think this looks a lot nicer than the previous Titan model?

If anybody here had them both, can they make a comparison picture?

Does anybody know what happened to Irish Trekkie? He's not posting any YouTube videos about new models anymore. I really loved them, they helped me a great deal to decide which models to actually get, which to skip, and which to obsess over.

Hm, this is concerning.
The last Twitter post is from 24 Feb 22: https://twitter.com/Theirishtrekkie
If the YT videos fizzled out, then I just hope it's Real Life taking priority right now.

I remember when I used to visit 8of5's website regularly, then it stopped being updated, came back...and is dormant again. Sad, but just real life.

Indeed. I’ve gone from trying to do approximate-quarterly updates of the SSDB to once a year, usually around December when I get a few weeks off. Working, married, with a kid and all the extra curricular things that come with having said-familial obligations occupy a lot of time. No regrets on that front at all, mind you, but it is still highly time-intensive.

Also, if I’m completely honest, my site’s been out there for over 25 years now and I’m just not as young and full of energy about it now as I was then, to be as intense about keeping it up-to-date.

Indeed. It's always been a tradition of mine, whenever I bought a model, to watch the corresponding video of his, going through the magazine, then the model itself.

Although I like the idea of a few non-canon designs working their way into canon, and I think EM did a good job here, I'm not crazy about the Titan design. It almost looks like someone took an Akira and replaced the saucer with one from a Sovereign. I think the saucer doesn't lend itself as well to a more condensed look, the way the Galaxy did with the Nebula.

Perhaps if the pylons connected to the nacelles more at the front, allowing them to hang back further, the way they do on the Centaur or the original Voyager concept. Perhaps that would be a bit more graceful. What do you think?

The Titan design was a contest way back in 2005 for the novels. The designers had to design it was certain restrictions in place and I think Sean (the winner) did a pretty good job. Feels like it’ll suit in the First Contact era of ships but has enough changes to give it a unique look.

One thing they got wrong on the eaglemoss model, is the phaser arrays. In Lower Decks (both seasons), the phaser arrays are inverted, they go into the hull, not out.

Well sonofabitch!!!!
We hope you are enjoying the Star Trek Starships Collection!

We would like to inform you that we have been facing supply issues for the magazines that come with each of your ships. However, we did not want to leave you unable to continue collecting, so we have decided to ship your next few boxes without a physical magazine. Those magazines will be skipped permanently but we will resume shipping magazines in the near future. Note that this change will not impact your next shipment if this one has already left our warehouse.

This will allow us to release shipments for items currently on hold because of the magazine. We have uploaded digital versions of the magazines online. Just head to this link to view and/or download those.

We sincerely apologize that the magazines will be missing from your subscription box. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to email us at [customer service email] or call us at [number].

We hope you continue to enjoy your collection and thank you for your understanding!
So, this tells me that magazines will be PERMANENTLY missing from the collection. I would honestly much rather wait for them to one day be available to ship with the corresponding model than never getting one, or scouring through eBay trying to find them, in order to fill out the collection. Do these people NOT understand collectors? This is straight-up not goddam acceptable!

Oh, and I love me some [customer service email] and [number] that I should never hesitate to contact!

Just... FUCK! :brickwall:

Just got the same email. That is stupid! I am only missing a few ships from the collection and now no magazines for those missing ships!

The upside is that apparently digital magazines may be available - they stopped after #100 for a time, but now it looks like they may be forced to finish it all, due to the damn "supply issues".
