Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Got my Defiant and XL Voyager. Both really nice, and quite close in scale to the XL TOS Enterprise and the DST Enterprise-D which I already had. Nice to have the main ships from the first four shows. Very tempted to get Discovery and the NX-01 next.

Voyager is a really nice model. Mine didn't fare too badly with window alignment - the larger white ones are fine, but the smaller black ones are not great. If they hadn't moulded the window recesses into the ship there wouldn't have been an issue.

a scan of the back of the booklet for the klingon beacon from the facebook fan group:

good look at the D7 and a malachowski-class variant with hoover class nacelles, which i believe is the tug from "brother".

It’s a Section 31 drone.
Oh yeah, totally spaced on those. Thanks.

I guess that means we should see that Enterprise fighter pod as well (the one that kinda looks like a Colonial Viper without wings). Were there any others in that battle? I think DISCO just launched shuttles and spinny pods.

The finished T'Plana-Hath model seems to look just like the CG model we've seen. I think the finer surface details are still missing (though it's hard to tell from this image). The shapes and sizes of some of the hull plates and indentations definitely don't match the movie version, and I don't think perspective has anything to do with it.

Interesting that it doesn’t have the dorsal “windows”/black areas that we’ve seen on the physical model that came as a club present decades ago.

Honestly, it looks fine. But just knowing it isn‘t accurate to what was seen in the movie bugs me. It‘s also one of those ships I would have been fine with as a regular sized model.

Somewhat off-topic, is anyone else getting the Colonial One model? I think in the previews it looks just awesome!

i passed, i thought it looked too clean. i've been waiting on my modern basestar preorder for over a month now, they say it's out of stock but the US webshop shows it in stock so who knows...

Got my Discovery Shuttle and Klingorc Raider ship today. The shuttle is a pretty impressive model. Only issue I have is that the landing struts aren’t straight, but I can fix that.

all right, now that we got a glimpse of ephraim and dot, we really need a DOT-7 model and how about an animated USS enterprise?

A long time ago, I read some article online delineating the notable differences between the TAS-E and the TOS-E, driving some to speculate that she may have undergone an intermediate refit prior to the full TMP refit. I can't find it, but one of the things that stood out was the increase in overall size of the secondary hull (particularly the length), giving it more internal volume. There may have been some differences in the pylon angles and nacelle dimensions, too, but I honestly can't remember, nor can I find that article. And, of course, there were many new never-before-seen internal areas added that may have also been a part of this alleged refit.

Early this year, I took the position on a whim that the TOS filming model was built with forced perspective to make the ship appear longer in front angle views. Rear shots used a different lens to expand the rear out straighter which also shrunk the forward part of the ship to also make it appear longer/bigger. I re-sketched the secondary hull to remove said perspective and the result in fact look more TAS-like: gave more room in the hangar bay; and raised the two rear windows up to put them on the observation deck instead of in the middle of the decks. In filmation drawings (the artist picks the views and angles), there is no camera lens selections as you see with model filming...some people thought this was a heretic exercise.
