Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Is that the Norway? I think they lost the assets for that, but it's such a simple design that it would be easy enough to replicate. Certainly easier than rendering the Merchantman or all these non-existant ships from scratch!

Norway’s been done, it was issue 61. The Millennium Falcon that was added as a joke maybe ?

The new DS9 would be a good one. I didn’t like it initially but it grows on you. It will need to be the right size to be worthwhile.

It's really weird that they haven't done (or even announced!) the T'Plana-Hath, the Vulcan shuttle from TMP, or Degra's ship. Or any of the Son'a, really. Those are the major ones missing, or am I forgetting something?

I can understand them not wanting to do the Son’a ships. They are painfully hyper-detailed and the source files have been long since lost and would need to be rebuilt from scratch. Probably not enough interest in investing that much expense in R&D in something from a movie that was largely planned by the fandom (re: floatation devices, Klingon zits and boob jokes).

Star Trek Online would give them models that are goo enough I suspect. And it makes more sense than the flipping study models (even if I have a soft spot for the voyager sternbach one.)

I think the reason we're getting so many studio models and concept art ships is - they're all hero ship designs.
People love buying Federation ships. They love buying human ships. The love buying hero ships.
Alien vessels? Also, but not nearly as much.

True, they are running out of starfleet vessels. On the other hand, it can’t be easy to get meshes for concept art...and where does it end? An upside down TOS enterprise made by a re-release with decals on upside down and a new stand? (Oh god, I think I just increased the run by an issue saying that didn’t I?) An Ent D with slightly shorter/longer nacelles? (I forget which it was happened in that known design change) (There’s another issue.)
We literally have ships being made from concepts for series that were never made. Is every Jeffries scribbled napkin on the desilu plot going to be checked?

XD

Some of those napkin scribbles are gold though... ;)

Personally, I’m loving all these Fed concept ships being produced :) not everyone’s cuppa tea, I realise - however I really like the Excelsior concepts that EM have made.

I don’t mind the concept ships, but I think they should have been store exclusives like the earlier ones (Sternbach Voyager, Phase II, etc.) and not regular issues.

speaking of comic cons...

according to startrek.com, SDCC 2019 will feature the reveal of "Matt Jefferies Shuttle Concept Bonus Issue, and the Star Trek Phase II Shuttle Concept Bonus Issue" at eaglemoss' booth, along with "reveals" of other ships that have already been revealed, like the XL excelsior, XL runabout, the klingon raider, and the altair.

quick google search of those concepts resulted in this for the TOS concept:

and this for the phase II concept (though it's credited to john eaves, so maybe not):

Could that mean we might also get the black, nacelle-less Kellogg’s shuttle?

We need a master list of every unique, not-yet-made Star Trek spacecraft ever. Like an updated version of Alberto Richter’s poll: https://glykokalyxblog.wordpress.com/starship-poll2/

I think the main collection is exclusively ships that have appeared on screen. Of course they're being a bit cheeky - a lot of DS9's frankenfleet was seen in one shot only, and these concept ships appeared only ever as background filler on some early TNG shots.

But generally they seem to stick with that rule - main collection: on-screen ships, and non-canon designs, popular fan designs and concept art ships as bonus or special editions.

To be completely honest: I wish they would intermingle it more. I would have prefered stuff like the shuttles, the concept art ships and so on all being part of the main line. But I guess more people are buying the specials at this point than the main collection, so it all comes down to money.

Also - just a sidenote - if they're having trouble with the main line, I would absolutely be okay with them spacing the ships a bit further out, like only one model per month, than they wouldn't be under such time pressure and could take a bit more time to choose which ships to do.

The concept art ships are mainline. The shuttles aren’t. I think they should shut down the line, and the existing subs, and go to selling them in their store only, because that’s really what’s happened anyway.

Did they ever do the Jupp from the Frankenfleet? It was the one with a Connie refit saucer and neck, and two nacelles attached to the torpedo bay. Looked a bit like an updated Saladin. That was probably my favourite of the Frankenfleet.

Trouble you say...?! Like it going on FOUR MONTHS since I've received a single subscription ship!! This is more than a little "pressure" and now bordering on incompetence! I've emailed and called several times and it's always the same generic answer, "They're Out-of-Stock right now but will ship out immediately when back-in-stock." Yet most of those "Out-of-Stock" ships are available on their website!!! It's been so long since I've received anything that it's becoming easier for me to just say enough is enough and just stop collecting altogether. It's like I've stopped already! ..... and yes, I'm getting really frustrated! :brickwall:
