So, the bad TNG story reminds you of a bad PIC storyline?

Yeah, that checks out. ;)
Which we are talking about because of a bad Academy story.

This really was a weak episode who's only saving grace was the natural charm of Caleb and Tactical Nuclear Warhead. Really impressed by both so far and they could easily be characters I hate if not portrayed so well.

As some have said.. Perfect opportunity to introduce Genesis and Darem's parents, as they both have "parent issues" to deal with, and this episode could have done that. Darem telling his parents to get bent. and Genesis stepping out of her fathers shadow.

Maybe it's coming. Every one of the 5 main cast has been set up with parental tension now so we could see all come to a head in the season finale.

Well, that sure was . . . dull. Way too much angst and relationship drama. Can only give it a 6.

I don't see this series lasting long unless it seriously retools itself. Make next season a field study type season where sh!t gets real.

It was fine. You had to expect a different and lighter story/tone after last week. Kinda how “Family” followed up BoBW.

That’s not me saying this was a good as Family or last weeks was as good as BoBW by any means. It was probably the weakest episode so far. But that’s ok.

I hope they aren’t setting up some kind of triangle between Kaleb, Genesis and Tarima. But it wouldn’t surprise me if they are or if they are setting up Genesis to be secretly pining for him. There were a few minutes there where Kaleb and Genesis were sure looking at each other a certain way. Something like that would certainly fit the cliche YA tropes though.

I’m kinda surprised Darem didn’t get a Klingon Thunderpunch for telling Jay-Den he “cut and ran” when things got tuff.

7/10

Random poorly thought-out hypothesis: I have wondered if Genesis has a dadmiral at all. She's shown to be largely about lying but mostly in innocuous ways. Maybe she's an agent of Nus Braka's people, a mole of some sort. There's no admiral, just rumors of an admiral that everyone seems to know but none can ever say they met. Genesis herself is genetically-engineered to be "perfect" mentally and physically (her name is a hint at this because Braka can't help but be cutesy; genetic engineer= Genesis; lithe of body and mind = Lythe). She has real issues tied into her psyche about measuring up but not to her admiral father. The recommendations were all fake but the whole thing was mostly a cover for a part of her evil plans the key was supposed to help with. She's bonded with SAM because she is similarly a creation made for a specific purpose. Also, there's no such thing as a Dor-Sha.

I wonder if there are actual teenagers watching this like it's 90210 or something or if it's just old Trek fans grinning and bearing it through the teen shit for the greater plot?
I wonder as well. I'm in the latter category, except I'm not seeing much "greater plot"--more waiting for it to show up!

I like smaller character driven stories. I just didn't like this one. There were maybe a few decent moments but most of it I did not care for.
