Star Trek isn't known for giving individuals "Comic Book level Super Powers".

It's only as of late that they did that.

I'm not talking about the Psychic Powers, Betazoids all have Psychic / Telepathic or Empathic Powers.

I'm talking about her Sonic Scream like abilities, that ability isn't normally part of Betazoids usual racial/species wide powers.

That was her psychic powers, not an actual scream.

So, how did Cadet Pickford make it past the psychological screening to get admitted into the Academy? Between eating her comm badge, walking in circles repeating red alert in the premiere and now having a complete meltdown upon seeing a corpse floating in space, she really doesn't seem up to serving in Starfleet.

And before anyone starts with "she's young, this is likely her first corpse" I point out Genesis and Darem are probably the same approximate age as her, and this could well have been their first time seeing someone killed, but they kept it together a lot better.
I'm pretty sure they lowered the acceptance standards to anyone who signs up.

A lot of Starfleet Academy grads get that same question. (Usually ones named Broccoli...I mean Barclay, yeah, Barclay.)
Barclay was a little neurotic, not a completely disaster.

I assumed her killing them all was just an extension of her being a super Betazoid.

And remember the X-men and Star Trek have crossed over.

Am I the only one who remembers the fanservice from Enterprise, where characters got lubed down in their underwear multiple times a season?

There was nothing particularly horny about the lovemaking scene of Caleb and Tarima, I thought. It's not like we get a flash of her boobs or either of their butts. There's certainly implied lovemaking, but what we see is mostly just two people covered by sheets making out in a not-particularly vigorous fashion. She wasn't riding him like L'Rell was doing to Tyler back in DIS Season 1.
And I expected much more after one review said it goes further than any trek ever did :D

I have no issue with them reusing the SNW bridge, I have more of an issue with that plastic tunnel...Yikes.

In the end it did not really distract from my enjoyment bit it stuck out like a sore thumb.
It looked like the one from early Disco S2, where they find Reno

I'm planning on doing that, actually. But the appearance and sound of the Furies surprised me, and so it'll be a few days for me until I give it a shot. Good idea, though. Thanks for suggesting it!
Other things you could try: Make the window very small in those scenes, or if it's a TV watch from far away, or squint your eyes so you only see it blurry, and use headphones but held a bit away from your ears.

The Furies I found kinda meh as villains and I’m not entirely sure if I understand whether the end means they were working together with Braka or not. If they wanted me to care about them they should have spent a little more time on what their whole deal was. As presented they just felt like baddies straight from a Power Rangers episode.

What I liked is how they established the mythology of the Miyazaki and her crew and captain. The comic was a nice touch, although its use as a historical record was stretching plausibility.
Those are my main problems as well. Why are their faces distorted? Why are they constantly screeching like the pterodactyls in each and every TAS episode? And can all ships be taken over by showing them comics? :D

And all Kryptonians have Superman's power. The Legion of Super-Heroes is full of planets that have a specific super-power, And there is a Corps that wields the same power ring,
But Superman is the supposed "Last of his Kind", so his Kryptonian Powers & Human UpBringing is what makes him special when he's amongst humans.

But the Legion of Super Heroes comes from the future where Super Heroes are far more common in their era.

The Lantern Rings are the tools that give the Lanterns their Super Powers.

Geordi La Forge says "Hi" as does Data. Garth Izar, too.
Geordi's power comes from wearing a special set of Goggles all the time that allows him to see beyond the normal visible spectrum.
I'm sure somebody can make similar Goggles for regular folks as well if they wanted access to Geordi's level of "Super Vision" beyond regular visible light spectrum.

Data's abilities seems pretty bog standard for a Soong Type Android in terms of power set or capabilities.
Something that can be eventually replicated & manufactured.

Garth's powers origin stories definitely feels like something out of a Comic Book.

I think it was more she blew up their brains from the "inside". Remember she damaged he father's brain causing him to go deaf.
That sounds exactly like a Super Hero with Meta Powers Origin Story.
Something straight out of DC/Marvel comics.

The confusion might be on your end.
Maybe it's finding the exact words to not confuse you as to what I'm exactly referencing.

You're not confusing anyone here. Your arguments just tend to be weak and arbitrary.
Okay, that's your perspective, you're entitled to it.

BTW, I object to colloquial dialogue and contemporary slang. It just doesn't feel realistic on a Star Trek board.
Really? You care that much about colloquial dialogue on a BBS?
More so than in show dialogue?

Definitely the best episode so far, for me. Episode 4 had good character work for Jay-Den but failed a bit in execution. Episode 5 varied widly from "actually quite good" to "glitter vomit" from moment to moment. This was consistently good the whole way through. I'm glad they didn't do any of the "GRRR, RVIALS" stuff between the Academy and the War College while they were on the mission. Krelec felt like a believable human being here after being a cartoon last week. Even the panicky cadet made sense this time and wasn't played for laughs like she was in the premiere. I liked Braka more here than his first appearance: he's still pure evil, but he's pure evil with more depth to the evil now. Giamatti is a great get for the show. I was liking B'avi a lot this episode so was slightly disapointed he died. Felt like a better actor than some of the regulars.

I hope they can keep this quality for the remaining four episodes.

The psych evals certainly can't compare to the real thing. There are a lot of places in Starfleet for someone to serve without being faced with dangerous situations. It just depends if Starfleet discharges recruits who can't handle combat or assigns them somewhere safe

except for the cousin, the dog, the clone, his son, the city full of Kryptonians....

Tell me you've never read LSH without telling me you haven't read LSH.

Yeah, so is Geordi visor.

They have mind reading technology, their psych evals would be better then the real thing.

Also, you don't get to choose your assignment unless you get the top couple spots, everyone else get's assigned to wherever the admiralty wants.

Of course, using psychic powers to inflict disabling pain is not only familiar from earlier Trek, but the idea of mental powers as a weapon has become a pretty generic skiffy trope. Trek is built on the foundation of common fantasy concepts and cliches.

Spock: We must kill Tarima before she has as much in common with as little white mice!

Caleb: No, Spock, there must be another way!

*Tarima's eyes turn silver*

except for the cousin, the dog, the clone, his son, the city full of Kryptonians....
Later add-ons to the franchise.

Tell me you've never read LSH without telling me you haven't read LSH.
The LSH was never my jam.

Yeah, so is Geordi visor.
I guess, if you equate that to a "Super Power".

So he has super powers
It's oddly specific and very limited in what it is useful for though.

Especially compared to a X-men like Cyclops who has really useful & amazing eye powers.

Android/Robot super heroes are a thing.
True, but Data isn't designed to operate like one.

Or Star Trek.
I guess, origin stories are similar, regardless of medium.
