Rewatched the episode and it occurred to me that I hope that Admiral Vance didn't just put a big fat target on his chest in that meeting with Braka.

It would mean if he exits, pursued by a bear, that the new CinC might be more antagonistic to Ake, which Im curious to see. Maybe a Ni'var (Nivarii, Nivarian?)

Or Genesi' dad?

New CinC? Why would Vance leave?

It was a reply to Turtletrekker, the post immediately before mine?

Okay, I didn't see that.

I don't see why Vance would be targeted specifically. Braka is part Tellarite... they use insults and arguments as their method of communicating. Vance was likely speaking to Braka on his terms, knowing his heritage.

Commander Hutchinson.

And he was in charge of Arkaria base in "Starship Mine". As soon as he asked what was going on, he was shot and killed. As leader of that facility, he supposed to find out what the situation was. Geordi got lucky that the guy who shot him did not have his weapon set to kill, unlike the guy who shot Hutchinson.

And I don't see how being proficient at small talk has anything to do with a cadet or officer not being able to handle a crisis. In Hutchinson's case, he wasn't losing his cool. In the cadet's case in this episode, she was completely losing it, and was (correctly) removed from the bridge so the distractive element is gone and people can do their jobs.
I was just finding humor in an example of a apparently non combat officer ending up poorly handling a combat situation.

It was not meant to be taken seriously. Just something in one of your posts reminded me of Hutchinson, and thanks for the correction.

Ah, okay. Didn't realize it was a joke.

(And you're welcome.)

Commodore Stocker has entered the chat.

Advanced weapons research facilities should be ultra-cloaked from now on and preferably placed near the core of Jupiter. And codenamed: Spanish Inquisition.

Else use a decoy station housing research materials made from the same element to confound their scanners.

For some, maybe, but I like it. And I'm 40.
I am glad you like it, honestly. It's just not what I'm looking for. I don't hate the show by any means. And, I get that it is what others are looking for.

Holly Hunter is fantastic in this show!

In the end, it is good that they have different types of series for different tastes. I can appreciate that even if this one isn't my favorite.

I appreciate and respect this.

As a huge Voyager fan, the relentless criticism of the show here is sometimes a real bummer.

Not every show will connect with every person.

Vive La Difference.

I'm a self-acknowledged continuity and canon nerd and even I wouldn't want to be the final say in things. Nobody in our community needs nor deserves that power.

I'd love to see it exactly once.

Having worked on a project with self described fan experts and the project was never completed I can say with a measure of certainty that it would be, as Doc Brown would say, a "spectacular wreck."
We don't need to guess about that because we've seen cases where fans have become showrunners. Various examples in Doctor Who and Star Trek come to mind.

Sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't. But it's not guaranteed to be good or bad.

I have very specific ideas in mind that I'd like to see play out.

And I don't count Doctor Who as part of my Star Trek musings.
