That makes sense, especially given how long Lanthanites can live.My money is on Charlie being her former XO

).Just because Bele & Lokai thought they were the last of their kind, doesn't actually mean they were.Because if someone writes an episode specifically about a species genociding itself it's bad taste to stick them in as a cheap Easter egg. It's not like there isn't a million more options you could use.
I sure hope you’re wrong — I love Ake too, and by far the most of everybody in the ensemble.I liked the pilot quite a bit even if it’s a bit overlong. I really adore Ake. I think her chill, almost hippy approach is a nice different kind of command. Caleb has a compelling story but I do figure mom is going to have some sort of connection to Braka. I also have this funny feeling Ake isn’t making it out of the season alive, unfortunately. Hope I’m wrong on that one. (That might be why first Holly Hunter agreed to be a part of this series and why Tilly is not a regular on the series and this point. She might take over in season 2. No spoilers, just pure speculation on my part.)
We already know there were more, Georgiou had one working for her in her nightclub.Just because Bele & Lokai thought they were the last of their kind, doesn't actually mean they were.
They spent all their time hunting each other throughout the galaxy because of their hatred, when they could have been looking for other survivors.
Their race obviously had the capability of space travel, so it is quite possible that other Cheron inhabitants left the planet to get away from the war and survived.
Heh ... Yeah, but Section-31 is such an anathema around here, I thought it best to stick to the TOS references we have.We already know there were more, Georgiou had one working for her in her nightclub.
It is one of my favorites, but I wish they had use the original version.I loved the arrival into San Francisco scene.
But now I can’t get that song out of my head
It's especially funny when you consider they have those instantly appearing "programmable matter" EVA suits from Discovery. The one thing I thought was ridiculous is no way to allow a Cadet to use an EVA Suit without an instructor present (And why do they still have 'suits' in the 32nd century anyway - if anything this would be a good time for 'Life Support Belts' like those seen (to same money in animation) in TAS.
Those must be restricted to "Certified StarFleet Officer use only".It's especially funny when you consider they have those instantly appearing "programmable matter" EVA suits from Discovery.
As they have already established that code lockouts are effective a single "if/and/or" string of code that amounts to "If not in vacuum, lock out activation. If in vacuum, activate life preservation mode." would be all that's needed. Those must be restricted to "Certified StarFleet Officer use only".
Can't let the kids have too much access to advanced gear.
I thought Captain Ake was a good fit for being Chancellor for StarFleet Academy.
She lived through the "Before 'The Burn' Times".
She knows the original spirit of StarFleet.
She's great with kids.
Holly Hunter's portrayal was perfect for what I think is a Good Chancellor of StarFleet Academy.
Somebody who's willing to take investment on Young Adults who need a little bit more parenting due to family situations.
Ake's going to survive. I'm not basing this on anything other a gut feeling. Mary Wiseman, I love her as an actress, but she can't carry a series as the main adult character. And Tilly's more of a big-sister than a school-mom. It's not the same type of character and not the same type of role. So, if they include Tilly, I highly doubt it's going to be at the expense of Ake.
They can just explain where Tilly's been by saying she was on Discovery overseeing the latest retrofit, then was on its next Red Directive mission Kovich sent them on. Simple.
I'm not saying she's bad for the role, but I do think that Vance just showing up at a random Bajoran preschool and giving her the job is weird. Is Vance now king of Starfleet or something?
I actually had no problem with Caleb being plucked to the front of the line, since Ake made it clear recruiting him was the condition of her taking the job. But I dunno, if they showed some time passing (with her not literally saying to the students she didn't know she'd have this job 15 hours ago) I would be a lot more satisfied.

Heh ... Geneviève Bujold? You can make a reasonable assumption that as the literal Commander in Chief of Starfleet he literally IS the King of Starfleet, and we can assume there was some sort of discussion, possibly with President Rillak, before he went to Bajor to recruit her, as well as a back-up plan if she said no, which makes you wonder, who was the back up?
Charles Vance is of "Fleet Admiral" Rank & "Commander in Chief" of StarFleet.
That's about as high as you can get in the Admiralcy, so if the Top guy picks you for the job, you generally accept it.
She mentioned finding Caleb & solving her issue with seperating him from her mother all those years ago was part of the deal.
I've seen IRL real hires that are about that fast, it's rare, but not impossible.Again, my problem wasn't just Ake getting the job, but also Ake being plunked into it with less than a day's advanced notice.
Who knows, maybe she did a cram session on her flight to the Academy for catching up on any new Protocols that have showed up in the 15 years since she's been gone. That's just not how any job in the world works. Maybe certain very high-need jobs in the military, if the last guy got killed or incapacitated. But for someone in a command position, you'd want some time to let the new guy put their affairs in order, do a cram session on duties and protocol, etc.
Probably the previous StarFleet Academy Chancellor that (quit/left/retired/fired/released) from their job for whatever reason.Actually, who was running the Academy prior to Ake is an interesting question. We know there were cadets in DIS's 4th season, so presumably there's been 1-2 years worth of cadets who have started the program, even if their not on the Athena.
