The Nielsen streaming numbers for the week S31 aired are due this Thursday. As a streaming movie, it will most likely be counted in the "Movies" section.
Does it have a chance of placing in the rankings? Very much so.
Here are the Movies rankings for Jan. 13-Jan. 19:
1. Back In Action (Netflix), 1.53 billion minutes viewed
2. Ad Vitam (Netflix), 379 million
3. Despicable Me 2 (Netflix / Peacock), 324 million
4. Unstoppable (Prime Video), 266 million
5. Despicable Me (Netflix / Peacock), 240 million
6. Moana (Disney+), 231 million
7. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (Netflix), 228 million
8. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 (Max / Netflix), 167 million
9. Hotel Transylvania 2 (Netflix), 162 million
10. Rush Hour (Netflix), 145 million
Currently the highest ranked Star Trek episode that we know of was the PICARD series finale, earning 400 million watch minutes from an episode length of 62 minutes. Other data points include the SNW season 2 finale earning 304 million watch minutes from an episode length of 53 minutes and the DISCOVERY series finale earning 269 million watch minutes from an episode length of 85 minutes.
S31 is 95 minutes long. Obviously complete apples to apples comparisons are impossible. Some people might stop watching an episode before reaching the end, while others might rewatch it multiple times within the week measured. However, making the assumption for the sake of argument that everyone watched the given episode once to completion, the following figures can be standardized to the length of S31.
PICARD 3x10: 613 watch minutes [6.45 million composite viewers]
SNW 2x10: 545 watch minutes [5.74 million composite viewers]
DISCOVERY 5x10: 301 watch minutes [3.16 million composite viewers]
When the S31 watch minutes are released, they can then be compared to the aforementioned other NuTrek projects.
Did "more people" watch S31 than the DISCOVERY series finale? Could S31 topple the PICARD finale as the single most watched NuTrek project since Nielsen tracking began?
