Star Trek: Renegades

Aren't these rules for a specific contest though? It''s been said that LucasFilm is "friendly to fan films" .. have they set out any guidelines for fan films outside of the rules listed for a specific contest?

They clearly tolerate it, and there's even some indication that they expressly issue tools to support non-contest films (including those that break several of the contest rules), but I so far haven't been able to find any actual policy document dealing with films outside the contest.

Perhaps a better starwoid than I can navigate the labyrinthine depths of Lucasfilm and come up with something concrete.

Come on thread, don't die on us.

I for one liked renegades. Didn't think I would (gritty should be saved for winter Road surfaces) but apart from a few janky bits it was good. And has Sean Young in it.

STR: The Requiem is currently in pre-production right now so things are pretty quiet at the moment. :)

It's a great cast, especially in the 50th year!

And I believe The Requiem is Episode 2, a 60min story (due to lack of Ks funds for a two parter)

I can't wait until it starts filming! :D

I'm way out of the loop on Renegades. Are they still planning to do twelve episodes a year, or is this next one the last one?

Sad...

Mind you, I'm only watching because of the great Miss Hatae

I have to ask, because I checked, because your enthusiasm made me think I had missed something, but has she been in something since that is causing your enthusiasm? Or her violin career? Because I liked Molly as much as the next person who likes seeing starfleet family, but I don't see why she would be so much of a draw beyond nostalgia. I am genuinely curious.
Within that, I have to say it's nice to see all the guest cast they have lined up, and I get the impression this is like a goodbye episode for those fan films that tried to show the characters after their moments on screen and continue the Trek story. Something not viable once a new series is on, but good going on the renegades team. Shows where the heart is, and makes me feel that it's exactly the difference between this and renegades. Keep the home fires burning, but when the master returns to the house, doesn't forget to hand the keys over. As opposed to the steward of gondor approach practised elsewhere.

Yes, that is indeed it... I am a fan of her violin performances and would seriously rank them amongst the best I have ever seen. It is nice to see her getting back into acting with this as well as "5th passenger"

I watched Renegades last night with my two teenage kids. We all liked it. Dramatic, dark, edgy. Good production values. Good cast of characters. Lots of intriguing mysteries. Impressive FX. Good musical score. Thanks to you and everyone else for your work on this.

I really liked it as well that is why I donated to the Kickstarter campaign. Having Robert Beltran and Terry Farrell join is a huge bonus. I do hope you are going to draw on Chakotay's edginess from the first two seasons of Voyager. The writing really suffered after season four and his character was not used nearly enough. Also, just want to mention that Star Trek has a lot of female fans that appreciate that you are engaging Melinda Snodgrass as a writer. Hopefully, you will finally do what the novels have done and have Chakotay/Janeway as an established couple. The show really failed in that area and never developed the glaring chemistry between them.

I noticed that a couple of actors that played of will play in Star Trek Renegades will be present during the FedCon convention in Germany.
The pilot episode will also be shown during the convention.
Robert Beltran - Manu Intiraymi - Walter Koenig - Terry Farrell.

And Vic Mignogna, but he is there to promote Continues. Because according to the program, all 6 episodes will be shown during the convention and there is also a Q&A with him about Continues.

Aren't they still doing some tracking? I was under the impression that the new scores were partial only.

The composer is around here sometimes; he can confirm.
Partial scores. I only have 6 hours with the orchestra and they are mostly undergrad students at Eastman. On TOS, they had only 3 hours, but they were with top LA studio musicians. A TOS full score might contain between 20 and 25 minutes of music. On a feature film. about 3-5 minutes of music can be recorded in an hour. On TOS, they had to do 10-minutes of music an hour. If I compose 30 minutes of music for STC, I may be able to do it in 6 hours with the Eastman students. That is what I'm shooting for in STC-ep6.

We'll see what happens. I'm recording on 17 April in Rochester and I've only written cues for the teaser and opening of act 1 so far. Remember, I have to do this in my spare time between real paying gigs and teaching. I'm gonna shoot for 25 minutes of original music for this one, although I may adapt a George Duning cue from The Empath that Vic really digs for a particular scene. Transcribing a cue note-for-note actually takes me more time than writing an original piece. I have no access to actual TOS scores, so I must take the track from the LaLaLand collections and listen very carefully through headphones. Then I write down, to a full score, everything I hear. I'll make an educated guess sometimes with inner voices and orchestration, but I get very close - spot on in some cases.

Really? I didn't know he was THAT involved.......
