Someone else said it at the top of the thread. I'm not ready to make that judgement yet.
If you were referring to me, I was talking about the Diviner.

As for the Denobulan, whether they "leave him to die" will come up in the next episode, I would think.

Well at least we saw him wearing his suit (unlike in the ending of episode 10)... so there's that.

They also established that Tars Lamora was a working facility with oxygen and supplies capable of housing and feeding hundreds of miners indefinitely, even after the Rev-12 left the asteroid in episodes 3 and 4. The Diviner built those facilities and lived there for 30 years, so he was basically under house arrest.

Similarly, I don’t know if it’s Starfleet protocol to imprison aliens outside of Federation space and haul them off — usually they just turn them over to their own authorities. Since they can’t do that without violating the Prime Directive, the “Space Seed” approach (like what happened to Khan) is a valid Starfleet protocol.

Great return, it was fun and fast.

And this show also has fantastic music, by the way.

Great introduction to the tractor beam, just when I was saying “what’s the sweat, the ship got to have a tractor beam”.

Starfleet sure loves to display unusual stuff on all available displays…Kinda like with the Omega molecule.

Worst federation officer ever.

So I guess the kids and fake Janeway really did just leave the Diviner to die at Tars Lemora.
no, he’s in stasis somehow. I guess the end of episode 10 was either allegorical or in his mind.

But also, they just left that dude to die in his life boat I guess... lol
he’s on an escape pod and a rescue team will no doubt come for him, probably from the Dauntless. He’ll be fine.

...and the Denobulan about a tale of how kids who claimed to have STOLEN the Protostar...

I can't be the only person protesting to the TV whenever they say they stole the ship that it was actually a legitimate salvage. There was nobody on it, the doors were unlocked, and it was buried in an asteroid. It was basically asking for someone to take it.

I'm sure the pod is due to be picked up by the Dauntless, because plot.
Indeed, that is likely what will happen.

I was impressed by the way they showed the weapons activation and effects, with the children experiencing them first-hand. Will be a great motivation to stay out of range of other starfleet ships and installations. By the way, what seems to be main part of the weapon is located right under the Protostar's bridge.

While this is pretty clearly a plot-focused serialized show, the character writing remains excellent (especially considering it's nominally a children's show). The ability of the writers to have each of the five main characters distinct personalities (including their flaws and insecurities) come through in the course of a half-hour runtime is impressive. No one here gets a character arc so to speak, but all of the interactions are enjoyable.

The Diviner being rescued by real Janeway is interesting, but IIRC he was essentially mind-wiped because of seeing Zero, so I'm not sure what role he will really play in the story from here on out.
The writing for the interactions on the relay station was spot-on, all the character beats there were great. I think the Denobulan was actually great as well, considering the guy is all alone in this very far, isolated outpost of the Federation. And also considering that his station was indeed sabotaged, even though our "Protogies" weren't aware of it.

The Diviner seemed to be living in his own space (in his imagination) in the little we saw of him at the end of S01e10, while he was really in stasis. I'm sure there is something to work with, but he won't be revived to instant health in one episode either. Maybe be end of S1, he will be restored to his senses and a major threat again.

Gwyn not knowing about what happened to her father - and still not being told - is a potential source of conflict for later. She may not be too thrilled they left him behind like that, especially if it turns out that Federation tech (or someone else's) may yet restore him to some extent.

Plus the eyewitnessing Denobulan will likely tell a 'horrifying tale' about the Protostar and the kids and the comm station blowing up shortly after that.
Now we know why would real Janeway hunt them without questioning things much.
On one hand she found a broken commbadge from the Protostar on Tars Lamora, she will likely find the exploded remains of a comm relay station and the Denobulan about a tale of how kids who claimed to have STOLEN the Protostar (I'm sure he will coneniently omit the fact they found it - but that is more or less to be expected given how he blamed the kids for what happened to the comm station).
It was reasonable to blame the kids, given their ship did indeed sabotage his station. That he now believes they were lying to him is not wholly unreasonable (they may even have a motive, what will all the ominous warnings after Dal was apparently identified in some way), even if he does know that one of them is very young. He will probably not believe their tale of how they found it, either. Still, if he tells Janeway what they claimed - escaping from captivity, for one thing - she may link it sooner or later to Tars Lamora. He would also tell Janeway and co the races he identified (including the alert that came up), plus a description of the girl who wasn't identified. Possibly, he may make the link between Diviner and Gwyn being the same species, which would add a piece of the puzzle for Janeway.

The setup for the rest of the season is solid. This is a major strength of the show, a combination of good characters and a conflict situation that is well set-up. Just like early in S1A we could have sympathy for Gwyn despite technically being on the wrong side, now in S1B we will have sympathy both for the Protostar group and the Dauntless crew. It's often more interesting if both protagonist and antagonist are sympathetic to a degree, and neither side is 100% wrong.

Starfleet sure loves to display unusual stuff on all available displays…Kinda like with the Omega molecule.
That was actually the major surprise of the episode for me - Dal being scanned and all the consoles turn red with ominous warnings to alert Starfleet Command? Just what/who is Dal?

I can't be the only person protesting to the TV whenever they say they stole the ship that it was actually a legitimate salvage. There was nobody on it, the doors were unlocked, and it was buried in an asteroid. It was basically asking for someone to take it.
Yes, I don't quite understand why especially Dal and Jankom keep saying they stole it. They salvaged a lost and unclaimed ship, did nothing wrong in that sense. Though of couse, impersonating Starfleet Officers while doing a "first contact" under directions of a Ferengi is problably not something they would want to mention.
At least Zero and Gwyn added the necessary context.

I'm going to speculate that Dal is one of the last members of a species and/or some manner of heir to leadership, e.g. royalty.
I think that description may end up fitting Gwyn better, though it would be cool too if Dal is what Gwyn is in some ways supposed to be (as supposed last of her kind, though we know this isn't true, and as the daughter of such an authority figure as The Diviner). We don't know what the position of the Diviner was in Vau N'akat society before he set off on his time travels, but the amount of demonstrative respect he demands from his own daughter may point to a figure used to pompous displays of authority.

An Omega molecule.
He does get a similar treatment .
My best guess is that he (and/or his species) is the result of genetic experiments, and the Federation may still be (maybe unreasonably) touchy about that.

Hm, the description of the episode here in Canada called the station 'Deep Space 13' for some reason.

A lot of Prodigy episodes tend to be pretty generic and average Sci-fi ‘fluff’ yet still manage to throw in some good ‘Star Trek’ hooks, twists and turns. Other than the return of Chakotay and a homage to The Voyage Home, this weeks ‘hook’ in regards to Dal has me intrigued… the last time that a computer reacted like this onscreen was to the highly sensitive Omega particle as discussed above. This is either *something* or *nothing* as far as I can tell. Maybe Dal’s Ferengi mum (despite everything, she is still his mum I guess) knows more than she is letting on?

The “Into Darkness” musical cue was fun. And overall the episode was good.

Janeway and Chakotay looked creepy as hell though. But I get that it’s just the animation style.

biggest nitpick is the same as the last part of the season. These episodes just fly by. I mean, they really hustle thru those 24 minutes.

Chakotay looks good! It's funny that they got his shoulder chevron right when they never could figure it out on Janeway :D

Pretty much. The ship was abandoned. The kids simply found it and used it to make their escape.
I do not understand why even mention they stole it (maybe from the Diviner, but the ship wasn't his to begin with).
