My only hope is that the writers continue to develop the characters and reveal some more details on their various backstories, motivations, vulnerabilities, etc. I really like all of the characters, both old and new, in this series and their continued development is what is going to keep me tuning in.

They do, Picard asks Soji why she's there and she says she wants to wander around. Plus Picard has considered them his crew for a few episodes up to that point
Seven being on the ship doesn't make much sense though. Still, we know there was some scene where Ramdha and the xBs were shown to be settling down on the planet together. Seven might have had some lines there to explain why she didn't choose to stay with them.
Is that the same person who was spinning all sorts of conspiracy theories about the Kelvin films?

Maybe they'll just put her through what they did to O'Brien in Hard Time? That way she gets properly punished, but can just pick up where she left off and be in the main cast on Season 2?
On the other hand, maybe she'll end up cellmates with Narek - which is how they keep both of them involved next season.

The fact that Oh placed mental blocks in Agnes's mind to keep her from talking about it indicates that she may have also placed the suggestion that it was necessary to kill Maddox in her mind as well. Hell, she may have even place the suggestion of attempting suicide in her mind as well. And this wasn't any normal mind-meld. Agnes experienced the admonition, which as we know tends to drive people completely insane.
Michael Chabon has said that the La Sirena was still on its way to Deep Space 12 at the end of the episode. Alison Pill has said that Chabon is writing the first two episodes of next season.

Give Elnor more to do in season 2 and let us Know more about Seven of Nine's back story after she left Voyager and what happened to her after the ship returned to earth. More stuff for Soji to in season two and being a scientists and use her talents like Data did.
