Spoilers Star Trek Picard Season 2 Hopes and Predictions

doesn't seem like it builds logically on any of the threads from the first season at all. Seems like a soft reboot TBH - just like Discovery.
I'm sad to think that you are right, but so far Season 2 is moving totally away from 1. More's the pity.

It's kind of sad to think that DS9 might be the most successful Trek in regards to long-form (as in across its whole run) storytelling for some time to come.

As I've said in the past, fundamentally I don't think a series which has self-contained episodes and self-contained seasons is all that different. In both cases you're letting the story play out over a convenient period of time from a production standpoint, and then moving on without fully examining the ramifications.

His mind, his experience is the same. It's just hs whole body, that's a prothesis. Just imagine his bionic heart expanded to include the rest of his body. to call him a robot copy goes against almost everything TNG AND STP told us about artifical life
And TOS.

Trek is very clear that Cartesian dualism exists. Minds can be transferred whole from place to place, entirely separate from the substrate they happen to be within. It's just how the universe works.

As for the real world...it's impossible to prove either way, unless one of us gets copied and feels subjective experience continue. And even then no one else would take your word on it, since it's exactly what a copy would say. I tend to think copies of humans, if perfect enough, should experience continuity of consciousness though - presuming we live in a materialist universe and our consciousness is nothing but an emergent property of the structure of the brain. It's not as if our consciousness is tied to the particular atoms that comprise our brain, since those are cycled out over our lifetimes - and all atoms are functionally identical (provided they are the right element/isotope) anyway. So why would it matter if someone destroyed your current body and "printed" a new body with an identical atomic configuration 20 feet to your left? Why would you presume oblivion rather than continuity of consciousness? Hell, we don't even need a "perfect" copy, given people can lose parts of their body (and even their brain) and don't seem to become new individuals.

Look, it worked for me, so Star Trek is right about that. I don't share a tear about my old body, my new one is way more advanced anyway.

damn, nevermind then

Still sorta wondering where the plot rumors are from, or are we basing them on the couple of leaked set pics and the trailer? Those aren't rumors.

To the best of my knowledge, there has been no leak whatsoever of a plot. It's all guesswork based on the trailer, the presence of Q, and the few leaked set images showing Seven and Raffi on a bus in present-day downtown LA, and another that appears to show Picard in an alternate Fascist Federation reality.

Thanks!

Isn't that pretty much what happened before season 1, as well? I seem to recall months of frenzied speculation with fans tying themselves into intricate knots fretting over wild, baseless fantasies that had somehow been latched onto as genuine, plausible rumour - all of which were ultimately disproved when the show actually aired.

Usually how it goes. The more things change the more they stay same.
