Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

if the rescue mission had succeeded UFP influence would have increased at the expense of the Tal Shiar, by destroying the space docks the Tal Shiar, slowed the admission of new member worlds into the UFP, harmed the UFP’s moral credibility, and made the Romulan Senate even more dependent on the Tal Shiar. The Tal Shiar also discredit Picard and Spock who were aiminv on improving UFP-Romulan relations. With the UFP evacuation of Romulan empire complete, the successor states to the Romulan Empire form a sea of Romulan domination that will eventually recover from the loss of the home world and form the Romulan empire anew under Tal Shiar rule. The subject People’s of the Romulan empire furthermore as a result of the Mars attack now will be unable to break free of the Romulan successor states without the UFP to support them. Thus the Tal Shiar sacrificed Romulas rather then see it fall into the UFP sphere of influence.
That is not why they destroyed Mars.

Binged this last week. Not as bad as reported in some circles. Some niggles that seemed obvious maybe because I binged it but nothing major (ex: the ubiquitous holo doesn't show for awhile after Agnes shuts down the EMH and no one seems to notice the absence.) Got feels at the end. Would have ended Season 1 at the walk into the light myself without Data giving the prep for that walk away.

That's a really nice theory. Too bad there isn't a piece of evidence that holds up the speculation, but it sounds really nice.

The UFP left Romulan space, the Tal Shiar dominates the RFE, and the Khitomir accords led to an alliance with the UFP and the Klingons. This conjuncture explains the situation in Romulan space at the time of Picard. Also the Khitomir conspiracy planned on Sacrificing Kronos to sabotage the Khitomir accords so there is precedent for such conspiracies on the Startrek universe. If the Tal Shiar expected the UFP to raise a second rescue fleet would the attack on Mars still have occurred? No since such a rescue mission would have required Synth labor to assemble in time for the supernova as implied by Picard’s revised plan, so the attack implied the end of the rescue mission which was the basis of the UFP presence in Romulan space. The failure of the UFP to aid the Romulans in high sight did harm UFP Romulan relations but Romulan paranoia and pre existing hostility makes the rise in anti UFP sentiment predictable.(however the last point leans to much on hindsight). Is their any evidence that the Tal Shiar had more power after the supernova(they already dominated The Romulan empire to begin with) there is no evidence that the Tal Shiar works for all the post supernova successor states(so probably not).

Is their any evidence that the Tal Shiar gained even more dominance of the Romulan state after the supernova?(besides the Tal Shiar being the most intact after the nova)

Without further evidence this theory will remain speculation.( looking forward to the future Commodore Oh novel)

with the UFP looking inwards and the Romulan successor states more dependent on the Tal Shiar for ensuing stability, is the Tal Shiar strategy of uniting the successor states into a neo Romulan Empire likely to succeed? Any UFP attempts to expand influence in the former Romulan empire is going to be half hearted, and we see no real evidence that the UFP looked outwards at the end of Picard, the biggest obstacle to Romulan designs is likely the Klingons.
This is a potential origin of Nivar.
Responding to a response to yourself?

The main reason was to stop the creation of sentient synths but preventing a Romulan Khitomir accords was likely another reason for the attack on Mars.

The Zhat Vash took control of the androids helping to build the rescue fleet and had them destroy Utopia Planitia to make it look like the androids went rogue, so that Starfleet would stop producing them. Even though those androids showed no sentience whatsoever. And it cost the Romulans their lives. It was a stupid plan written by stupid scriptwriters.

And it has dire implications due to their infiltration to nearly the top echelons of StarFleet with Commodore Oh as the head of StarFleet Security, and at least one extra StarFleet infiltrator in the lower ranks in the form of Lt. Rizzo.

It is completely and totally unfathomable that Picard would not change, which is usually what is expected from franchise fans is that these characters remain static, not dynamic, as people actually are.

I've heard similar complaints with regards to Seven of Nine ("Seven was a scientist! Seven was good! How could she go from doing that to killing people?")

Seven was a SOLDIER. That's what she did for eighteen years. She killed and assimilated.

She went from being (somewhat) comfortable on Voyager to suddenly having to function in a new quadrant with few resources to her name.

I'm getting pretty jazzed about this new season! So many mysteries being teased!

Dweezil Soong.

River Soong.

He'll play Alton Brown Soong, who hosts a cooking show for androids.

A Soong for every season, for every season a Soong.

Cast....cast a Soong...
Cast Brent Spiner...to last the whole show loong...

The Soong remains the same.
These were all good, but...

He actually plays the daughter of Altan and a famous Barzan who will, in every episode, show up at just the right time:

Nhan Too Soong
WINNER! :guffaw:

Really wide speculation!
But *interesting* speculation, so why not? :D

@Tuskin38 - thanks for the bloopers! I love hearing Patrick razzing "Johnny"!
