Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I'm stoked for this comic! Hope it has some grounding in canon, especially since it's written by Picard writers.

One question: Geordi is still only a commander, 20 years after Nemesis? Shouldn't he at least be Captain of Starship Design, or something like that?

The preview for Picard Countdown #1 is available HERE.

The mission to save Romulans occurs in 2386. Admiral Picard's ship is the USS Veritas, with the bridge of a Star Trek Online Odyssey-class. The Picard uniform we have seen is the standard duty uniform for the era, minus the gold trim. Geordi seems to be running Utopia Planitia Shipyards and is building vessels especially for the mission. Geordi has models of the Enterprise-E and -F in his office.

Is it stated somewhere that these are the Ent-E and F?

I think Commander is a terminal rank for most officers in Engineering. Scotty being promoted to Captain of Engineering was to emphasize how big of a deal the Excelsior was. And apparently it was, since it turned out to be backbone of Starfleet in the following century. Scotty wouldn't have just been the Captain of Engineering. To coin a phrase from Bill Clinton, he would've been building a bridge to the 24th Century.

I don't think what Geordi's doing is quite that. So that's my head canon for why he's still only a Commander. It's probably the rank most people in his track end up at, and no one thinks any differently of it. He'd probably have to switch to the command track if he wanted to go any higher, which would mean a red uniform.

I agree with the some of comments in that twitter feed. That was an odd one to release, with the generic sword fighting theme.

I'm hoping they'll release one for each of the characters, though a lot of them seem less "action" driven.

TOS to TNG --> Klingons go from "bad" to "good"
TNG to PIC --> Romulans go from "bad" to "good"

Romulan Jedi vanquish the Romulan Sith.

it confirms that Picard's mission is connected to the supernova, mentioning it is at least a year away.

Riker and Deanna are still on the Titan as of 2386, and implies the Enterprise-E is under a new captain. And another shot of the Odyssey Class bridge

Looks like it’s actually 2385, the prologue with the Romulans on the vineyard is 2386 then there’s a “one year earlier” caption. Which ties in with the “Fourteen years ago, today” voiceover in the first teaser trailer.

wait, the STO Odyssey class is possibly canon? That would mean an Enterprise-F!
