Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Just had a quick read of ST Picard Countdown #1

- it’s only 25 pages worth of story. The rest of the booklet are commercials for other ST comics

- the Verity is in fact an Odyssey class vessel (NCC-97000)

- La Forge is in charge of „constructing a completely new fleet in record time“

- Romulus is aware of the impending supernova, yet still they decided to keep it secret until the federation intercepted transmissions on the crisis

- the Raffi Musiker character is Picard's Lt. Cmdr and FO on the Verity. She is “allowed” to call Picard “JL”. She is an expert on Romulan affairs...

- most of the story plays on a colony planet of the Romulans, called Yuyat Beta, which is located on “the edge of the blast zone”

- Picard’s mission is to relocate the 10.000 Romulans, living on the planet

- the Governor of the planet is a blonde Romulan woman called “Shiana”

- on the surface, Picard realizes that the Romulans basically enslaved the indigenous culture on the planet. About 5 million (obviously pre warp capable) people.

- since the species is “primitive” according to the Romulans, they don’t see a need to relocate them —> Romulans first

- obviously Picard disagrees and clashes with the Romulan authorities

- Picard refuses to immediately relocate the Romulans without having a plan for the other 5 million, he wasn’t been told about in advance

- the Romulans throw Picard in jail and threaten to board the Verity by force

- in jail, Picard is pissed off, that he trusted the Romulans in the first place

How did you already get a copy? When will it be released?

Just downloaded it from IDW.

Seems like good old-fashioned TNG Trek. Feels right. But I wonder if this "new fleet" Goerdi is building is a them setting us up for ships that looks nothing at all like the ones we know and love, which would be awful.

I don't read comics anymore. I stopped in 2011, except for the occasional once in blue moon thing. But tonight is one of those times where I see that figurative blue moon. So I'm jumping in!

"Edge of the blast zone" means bigger than the Romulan system but still infinitely smaller than "threatened to destroy the galaxy" from the movie.

And it sounds like the Romulans are asking for their fate in how they're dealing with the situation. But I think we call could have guessed that:rommie:

I always wondered what happened to native species in the space of other Empires, I mean we know that the Cardies enslave and strip mine worlds, Romulans too then?

Due to the nature of the mission I assume they won't look like typical ships but more like HUGE whale like ships to hold thousands of evacuees.

According to the comic, the rescue operation has been underway for more than 4 years. Several colonies have already been evacuated with the help of the federation. This implies, that the hobus event didn’t catch the Romulans off guard and they had plenty of time to act accordingly. This must also mean, that the Romulan fleet must be still largely intact post hobus.

Then why is Geordi rushing so hard to complete these ships?

That would be cool, provided that...

...they’re used realistically as a plot device for the evacuation. I guess the “hero ship” in the NYCC trailer could be one of those. It seems very slapped-together and unglamorous, but cavernous on the inside. Believable as something purpose-built in a hurry. Could also explain why we see the old BoP brought out of mothballs, since presumably every ship helps. You know what else has a lot of volume? A Borg cube. Could the Romulans have used a captured one initially for the evacuation?

Isn't that more or less what they did to Remus?

I really hope that in some way, we can get a data & geordi reunion.

If Data is brought back to the life, then I agree. Data and Geordi is one of my favorite Trek friendships, so I would love to see it come back in Picard.

Spiner mentioned that he worked with Allison Pill, so maybe Data shares scenes with the cyberneticist she's playing, which would make him not just a dream character
