Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Commercials will make their way to digital services soon. Just you wait. :)

Both CBS All-Access and Hulu have commercial and commercial free plans. Plus, with most services, you get an ad for something they're pushing before the start of whatever you're watching.

Hulu never came to the UK. It’s a shame since there were some interesting things on that one.

I think the first month of CBSAA is free, so you don't have to put down any credit card information.
In my experience any time you sign up for a subscription service, even with the first month being free, you have to lay down CC information.
That's correct...you have to give payment info as part of the sign-up for the free month. Just did it with CBS-AA myself.

The difference is that you can subscribe and drop as you see fit. So you can watch whatever you want on Amazon, for example (Jack Ryan, The Expanse, Man in the High Castle for me) and then drop it, subscribe to CBSAA and binge DSC, Short Trek, and Picard, then swap out again.

There's a way to manage costs with these subscription services that doesn't have to come down to "YOU GREEDY BASTARDS" hatred. Let's face it, a show like Picard or Mandelorian isn't going to get made on regular cable ever again. Too expensive to produce, and not enough detectives and fire trucks to draw interest.

You need the reverse of that too-"WHERE'S my moralizing speeches!!!!!"

No matter what, some one will be pissed off. Oh well, it's not like Star Trek is a stranger to that.

100% accurate. In fact, in those same discussion threads are people already complaining that there is gunfire and fisticuffs in the promotional material. "Where's my conference room scenes, dull philosophizing, and contemplative tea drinking, you JJ Trek / violence-loving bastards!!!1!!"

We cut the cord and cut our bill in half. It has been a couple of months and there is nothing that I miss about cable.

Cable box + TV + electricity = $$
Internet (and/or phone) connection + internet modem + electricity + (optional internet router, depends on what the modem features) + computer/phone/smart TV (replace every 2 years whenever the maker doesn't put in a connectivity app for a new channel or just stops supporting it) = a bit more $$

The emperor's new cord?
