Depends on definition. New agent, New director by season 3. New director around season 6. Temporary agents with reassignments of main agents.

Fairly stable but they always found ways to mix it up.

I was just talking the main “every episode” cast, not ancillary characters like the Director…even if they put the Director in the opening credits.

and in that case you had just 1 new agent in the first 11 seasons.

L&O had a new lead detective in its first 3 seasons. Swapped out the LT and ADA in S4, a new detective in S6, a new ada in S7, etc…

Can't argue with that. The most I've ever stayed at a job was four years. That's happened a few times. And by the time I hit the third and fourth years, I was sick to death of where I was. If it wasn't one thing, it was something else.

I don't know if NCIS is the most apt example of a "contemporary" show given it has been on the air for almost 20 years (it debuted when Enterprise was still on the air). NCIS still tends to follow as longer network television series still do (though less and less), a more episodic show where characters arcs continue over seasons, but the "mystery of the week" is wrapped up by episode's end. Cable and streaming shows tend to have more turnover in character due to their more serialized nature where characters are often plotted to have specific journey and then are written out with perhaps a small core of characters remaining constant.

I think one thing to remember with Picard as well is that it was never designed to be an ensemble show. It's Patrick Stewart's vehicle so it makes sense that the supporting cast would change. In all honesty, S2 felt very contrived in terms of everyone just happened to get to the Stargazer (I know contrived "only ship in the sector" is very Star Trek).

Akiva Goldsman has already hinted Jurati is likely to reappear at some point down the road.

Yeah, I can't believe how many pages this thread has squeezed out of "guy who didn't like the first two seasons likes what he's read of season three".

New interview with Terry Matalas via Trekmovie.com: https://trekmovie.com/2022/08/12/po...erry-matalas-about-star-trek-picard-season-3/

There’s a few new nuggets of information:
They ARE using the backstory that Worf commanded the Enterprise-E after Picard. Matalas kinda alluded to this before but has confirmed it this time. But as we know, he’s not in command by this point.

The hero ship is neither the Stargazer or the Enterprise, but we will get “our Enterprise fixes” during the season. And the hero ship does use the Stargazer bridge, with less gloss. So the ship that needed to be blurry out on that video from a month or two back may not even be the Enterprise after all.

Maybe Seven is put in commmand of the E-F at the end of the season?

It would fit Terry brimming with enthusiasm about directing Jeri Ryan in the final episode.

It would allow Picard to go out with a bang.

For her to go back to the Rangers, she would be ending up where she started (albeit with Raffi possibly in tow). It would be anticlimactic.

Seven left the Rangers for a reason. She needs structure and accountability.

Starfleet can give it to her. Why would she go back?

It would depend on how it plays out, I think. Seven had the whole vengeance quest hanging over her head while she was in the Rangers, but now that's past. So now she's presumably had a clearer perspective on what it's possible to achieve in both Starfleet and the Rangers, and make a decision on where she feels she can do the most good. So I think that arc could potentially be less ending up where she started, and more confirming that she was in the right place to begin with. But it feels like SH is leaning pretty hard toward Seven going Starfleet, and with all the TNG cast coming back and needing their time in the spotlight, I doubt she's going to get a big enough role to really explore any potential conflict anyway.

So, I just listened to part 1 of the interview with Terry Matalas on Trekmovie and I'm getting excited.

Just to confirm though Re: Worf
He says that they neither confirm nor deny Worf was the captain of the Enterprise-E but they do allude to it. Basically it's canon if you want it to be canon I think is what's trying to say.

A couple of other little nuggets:
Laris is in season 3 but it sounds like probably only in the first episode. Matalas says that her "scene" in season 3 is his favourite Laris moment of the whole series. But it sounds like the narrative thrust of the season, at least in terms of Picard's love life, is going to involve Beverly.

Speaking of Beverly, he confirms that the very first scene of the season is a Beverly Crusher scene (which seems to confirm RMB's earlier spoilers) and also that he just had David Goodman (former Enterprise writer who now works on The Orville) watch a very important scene between Picard and Crusher which he (along with Stewart and McFadden) spent weeks working on.

And then a few random brow raising mentions: Troi has a major revelation this season. Raffi's story heavily involves one of the TNG cast and she is in a "good place" this season. He wanted to have an episode center around Seven and Naomi Wildman but they couldn't make it work.

I also liked his frank thoughts on Season 2. Basically covid screwed their original plans.
