Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

It would be possible but Jurati killing Maddox pretty much removes it as an option.

She clearly feels guilty about something she did in the past (Mars maybe) and something she was about to do (probably killing Maddox).

There are a few possibilities from what I have seen so far:

1. She works for Oh and has done since the start playing Maddox all the way, possibly behind the attack on Mars as well.
2. She was normal until the Commodore showed her the secret which was enough to make her whack Maddox who she seemed to love at least for a while.
3. She is a synth created by Maddox to protect the others, would explain why she killed Maddox in an attempt to protect them.
4. She is a synth created earlier by another organisation who feel that their secret is being threatened by Maddox and his synths, possibly to do with whatever it is that the Zhat Vash are afraid of.
5. Something else we haven't even been shown yet.

Right now for me its 1 or 2, with one being at the top for obvious reasons.
After reading these possibilities, I'm going to think maybe Jurati worked for Oh at one point, then moved into something else, with Oh recruiting her again. So call my probability 1.5.

Sounds like a Malcolm Reed-in-Section 31 situation all over again. Malcolm resumed his Starfleet career and spent years out of contact with Section 31 until Harris contacted him and ordered him back into action.
This is what I'm thinking. Then Agnes goes too far, with Picard confronting her, phaser in hand, exclaiming, "The line has been drawn heah! This fah! No furthah!"

(sorry, mind drifted for a minute. I'm back)

Perhaps she's really pizzed-off about being stuck on Earth and not out among the stars anymore.
She very much seems to me to have been a Star Fleet Lifer.

She became a drunken, paranoid junkie

Of course her life wasn't going to turn out exactly how she wanted.

Tough titties m, that's on her poor life choices not a "dystopian " federation.

I'm not really reading too much into it, but the show does seems to be dropping hints. Besides other characters dropping money references, Raffi drew a difference between Picard resigning and her being fired which could imply a difference in getting a pension or severance pay etc.

Speaking of that--- curious as to why Starfleet fired her, just because Picard resigned and just because she was acting as Picard's assistant.

I thought the characters both held something unique, Picard had his identity stripped from him and he's carrying that. He has a certain amount of Ahab to him even still with that scene.

Seven has very little humanity to recover.

For me, Raffi's rant seemed a way for her to imply that he'd had something productive and familiar to return to. Whereas she hadn't. She'd burned too many bridges. She hadn't had a family or home to go back to. As we later find out in the Free Cloud episode.

Probably not a fair assessment, since she was a big girl and made her own bad decisions, but she was still pissed at him for giving up and essentially abandoning her. Retreating to his chateau. Not bothering to check up on her for 14 years. No wonder she threw a few barbs at him.

So far;
Picard is full of regrets and everyone seems to blame him for everything.
Raffi is a bitter alcoholic and drug addict with a broken family, Her son is also bitter and hateful at her.
Seven is bitter, revenge obsessed and cynical.
Maddox went off the grid.
Rios is a little cyncial after seeing what happened to his captain.
Jurati is a killer when she isn't looking sweet and innocent.

These characters have a lot of demons.

Rios actually seems the most normal of everyone by comparison. Admittedly it's not saying much due to who he's being compared with.

True. I have sympathy for Picard because everyone is beating up on him. He also seems to be the only moral person left in the AQ.

I think "fired" in this case was a euphemism.
Possible, but I get the feeling the show is moving this in a money/work direction.

Yeah, so healthy in fact that he's got a starship full of EH's that look pretty much like him and he continuously talks to them as if they are real.
;)

I'm thinking it's number 2 right now. I haven't really seen anything to make me think that Jurati had anything to do with Oh or any of the current drama until Oh showed her whatever she showed her.

At first glance that makes things simpler but actually it makes things more complicated as one wonders why Oh didn't just brainwash Picard the same way.

and I doubt an elite force would have dropped a rifle storming Chateau Picard!
What elite force? They don't have a very good track record so far.
What are you up to Jurati, who do you work for and are you even human at all.
It's like Agents of SHIELD season four all over again-who's the LMD?
and he continuously talks to them as if they are real.
They are real.... No wonder artificial intelligence rebels so much in science fiction. Organics tend to treat it like shit. /rant

The preview of next week's episode is now posted. Looking forward to the reunion b/w Picard and his 'Number One' (not his dog) ;);)
