Random alien trivia question, but does anyone know if there's a name for the race of that female non-speaking bridge officer? She was standing next to Shaw in the lineup with Vadic, she has long white hair...
According to Memory Alpha, she is a Nonnikcam, and the species was named after make-up artist James Mackinnon.

As a side note...apparently Memory Alpha is still doing their bit as they still classify Data as "Revived as Dyastrom Android M-5-10. Geordi, Troi and Picard all just call him Data.

For fucks sake...just put

"Revived 2401".

This is the same shit they pulled with the Picard Golem thing

Just checked them out a few minutes ago... Lore is listed as "Died 2370" too, with "Lore's personality in Daystrom Android M-5-10" listed in the Legacy section.

And it wasn't even confirmed that Lore died at the end of that episode, just deactivated.

I don't get why they have to be so stubborn and stupid about shit.

One bit of side trivia: the events of both episode 7 and 8 occur in the Chin'toka Scrapyard.

Presumably the scrapyard is in the Chin'toka System, the location of two major battles between the Dominion and the Federation Alliance. During the Dominion War, the system was in Cardassian space, and was the Federation's first major offensive into Dominion territory. So either the Titan was hiding in Cardassian space, or by the 25th century, and as a result of the war, the Chin'toka system is now claimed by the Federation.

Also, it would mean the Titan is really, really close to Bajor and Deep Space Nine.

I doubt the Federation would be claiming space like that.

More than likely it is still in Cardassian space and is simply openly accessible to all sides due to the battles there.

The Chin'toka system was pretty close to Fed space. It could have been disputed or even taken during the Cardassian War™

Given the territorial disputes that led to the Demilitarized Zone and the creation of the Maquis, maybe the post-war Cardassian government renegotiated their borders with the Federation. They could have made territorial concessions as part of a peace agreement and promise for help rebuilding Cardassia.

I'm thinking how the Allies carved up control of post-World War II Germany and Japan. I have to believe the Romulans and Klingons kept significant parts of Cardassian space after the war. And I could see the Federation stepping in to "administer" parts of the Cardassian Union in a similar arrangement to how they came in to help the Bajorans after the occupation.

I get the jokes, really. Its nice to see Picard not be an immediate rockstar in everything.

Though to be fair..it seems they ship enough of the wine where it isn't a complete flop
Wine sits around for a bit before it's sold.

Days for a shitty outfit, or years for a pretentious pack of wankers.

There was a 2386 bottle on site in season 1 of Picard (2399).

Picard resigned in 2385.

I think its highly likely that Marie Picard oversaw the wine bottled in 2385.

Right, I just jotted down points while I watched this. Going to copy and paste. My head hurts. Same old same old.

Plot convenience unplugging Data at the exact moment that Vadic assumes control. Stuff like this happening in every episode. Geordi is a genius?

Everything has been locked down by her. Everything seems lost. The crew aren't bound/restrained. She's there in front of you... die fighting, especially since swords and the like harm them, at least for awhile.

Jack and his ongoing visions. Why did they suddenly start when this show started? Was he a well adjusted young child and man?
No explanation. Always felt different is not enough by a long shot. If he has such a close relationship with Beverly surely they would have chatted and she would have known. Maybe he was in terrible need of a father figure/mentor type person. Woeful

Control the entire ship? Beam them all into one area.... force field. job done. Good luck.

Frake's is the best thing about this show, without question. Owns every line, and that's very difficult when you consider most of the dialogue
Their conversation doesn't really land because we never experienced their pain together at the hands of Vadic... makes no sense. Why aren't they worrying about their other child?
They're just telling the story to the viewers... they may as well have been looking at the camera... narrating.

Should have blown the turbolift.... the end... done. Hang on, why is she still your second in command again? And why aren't you commanding the ship?

Air force one execution scene. I wish I was watching Air Force One. Silly daft fun, but acceptable given it's tropes. And the fact that it makes sense to a certain extent. This makes no sense.

Override codex. Senior starfleet officers. Shaw wouldn't allow you take the ship, now you can take it with a code? Hostile takeover nonsense... just patching this script up with whatever

How did you know it was Picard's codex Vadic? How did you know that full stop. Why would you allow Jack to stay mobile and just threaten executions rather than do something else when you know what he's capable of? Crazy villain can only go so far. Speaking of which, that's our main villain gone, after 8 episodes of a 10 episode show.

How long has Deanna been a counselor? And they're explaining their relationship to the audience again. You're aboard a hostile ship, getting tortured. Leave that till later. No idea what the hippie stuff is about, but that's not counselor Troi talking, that's Marina Sirtis.

Ah yeah, Worf with a blade in the back again. Hugs and love, not earned. You've worked on yourself? You're not even Klingon anymore, stabbing that lad in the back. Riker's line was great though, but still daft. And again, how? Just is for feels.

Wine stuff with Picard and Geordi brilliant.

Ah, Data the saviour again. I'm delighted that he's just Data now because I can't take him playing multiple personalities anymore. Not able. Fantastic as Data because he has to display restraint.

Seriously, how small a world/universe is Star Trek now? Everything involving this plot has to do with people we've already met in older shows, and that really becomes tiresome. Only real new addition is Jack, and don't get me started about his journey.

They're explaining Picard's body while on enemies ship. Why? Why return to the shuttle? Why not take them on? take over the ship or try to? They just walk off screen. good luck. what are you going to do in the shuttle? it's so bad.

Turbolift again. Where did Jack get the cute bomb from? And another thing, a few episodes ago Picard and Geordi didn't want to endanger Data's life... couldn't go through it again. My brain is actually hurting.

Could go on and on. It's just plain bad in terms of writing

SEVEN: This is a non-smoking flight! PUT YOUR CIGAR OUT! COMPLY!

vad.jpg

VADIC: Ooh I'm so scared. Aren't you the Queen Bee Borg. What are you going to do, throw Kal-toh sticks at me? Sticks and stones won't break my bones, but names will never hurt me, Commander Hansen.

SEVEN: Then you won't mind if I open the door and let in some fresh air. It's a Solids thing.

Oh, bloody hell! I bawled me eyes out for the second time this season when Data handed his cat Spot over to Lore. But I also cheered with an air punch when Seven of Nine told Vadic to "get off my bridge" with such pizzazz and rage. Utterly tragic it was to see T'Veen bite the dust at Vadic’s hand… It was almost as heart wrenching as when they offed Carey in 'Basics.' Granted, *most* of the Titan crew are just disposable extras, but I do hope they'll all make it to the end of the season in one piece. Quite the rollercoaster of emotions this week and the plot just continues to twist and turn to no end. I do hope that we get some pay off soon though.

The special effects were as mind-bogglingly fantastic as ever even if they are starting to become overly familiar as not much new was rendered by the CGI team, the familiar shots of the Titan and Shrike have lost their power to awe and surprise however beautiful they are…. We need some new CGI eye candy and money shots. As for the soundtrack, well, it continues to impress me to no end. But did you know, it's scientifically impossible to hear the sound of glass shattering in space such as in the scene where the Frozen Changeling got the boot? Preposterous!

Oh, it was quite a wild ride of emotions witnessing Geordie and Data's interactions, just like in the good old TNG days! I must say, I think I'm going to enjoy this new version of Data. But, here's the kicker… is this the authentic Data, or just a mere copy? Our heroes certainly are treating him as if he's the real ‘McCoy’!

One thing that I disapproved of in this weeks episode (again!) was the random use of profanity - do the Star Trek writers not know how much trouble they can get people in to by teaching the fans such words should they decide to repeat them in an inappropriate, unprofessional and unwelcome fashion???? Here is a brief history of profanity’s in Star Trek for your perusal. Whether you agree with curse words or not, they have powerful implications and should be used wisely and not for shock value or crude attempts at ‘street cred’ with your audience.

Now for the elephant in the room; what in the world is this Jack Crusher business all about? Could he be some sort of Deux ex Machina, similar to the ‘Bad Wolf‘ in Doctor Who? I have a sneaking suspicion that Jack might just save the day in the finale by wielding the very powers that he's being hunted down for just like Rose Tyler did!

Finally, how deliciously awkward it was to witness some Worf/Troi shipper recognition in this week's episode, with poor Riker left to listen in discomfort and comment on how inappropriate it was. Finally, some well-deserved attention and follow up for that long forgotten ‘All Good Things’ pairing… which could still potentially come to be depending on the outcome of this season! Perhaps we will also get a similar Seven/Chakotay scene with Raffi if they ever manage to rescue the poor guy from mid 25th century imprisonment by the Vau N’Akat.

All in all, I'd give Star Trek: Picard episode 03x08 ‘Surrender’ - 9/10.

YA know, it could just be that Geordi just isn't into drinking wine.

I don't care for it at all.

There's no sound in space. Star Trek sucks...

He is a version. It's right in the dialog.

Um, what?

The gang is finally back together and I want more than two episodes to enjoy it ;)

Anyone else agree?

Just randomly beaming down shooting people in the back
Assuming you're referring to the events at the start of "Stardust City Rag"...how the hell was it "random"? She was trying to rescue Icheb, whom she thought of as her child. She shot people who were holding him captive, one of whom was torturing him and who ripped out his eye. What was she supposed to do in that situation - ask them to surrender?

BAD GUY: *death gurgle*

PIC-S3E8-250.jpg

WORF: I think he got the point.

PIC-S3E8-251.jpg

WILL: Worf? Have you been watching Sean Connery James Bond movies again? Remind me to have a talk with Dr. Bashir.

PIC-S3E8-262.jpg

WORF: I never realized how easily puns legitimize violence. It is not honorable, yet it feels satisfying.

PIC-S3E8-260.jpg

DEANNA: Worf? You and I need to have a long talk...
