Isn't that the point of all Entertainment?

Isn't what the point of all entertainment?

I mean, if you generalize broadly and superficially enough and ignore all distinctions between different kinds and levels of content, you can fairly say that Star Trek is no different from bestiality porn. They both entertain someone, right?

It's pointless to fling a dismissive general statement like that in the direction of any objection to or question about story content or logic that you don't want to hear. It's almost as bad as falling back on that stupid old "That's why it's called science FICTION" retort.

If we look back at all of the talk about Times Arrow not happening then the same applied to Futures End. So we’ve no idea if he’s dead or alive.

What we do know is he won’t have received a 29th Century Federation Timeship.

Darn, I had not thought about that. And without that he's just some random Silicon Valley dude who never made his first million or had Rain Robinson monitoring the skies for a specific frequency, etc. etc.

Actually we do have evidence that the timeline A with absolutely no time travel involved existed, and that's the data on Spock's tricorder that Spock used to determine what had changed in the timeline.

He even states, "This is how time went before McCoy changed it..."

To avoid duplication, I'm moving all my discussion of "City" arising out of the "Watcher" thread into another thread in this forum, since the other thread is more specifically about time travel and (a version of) the post kicking off the discussion was also over there as well.

I think Connery's last official outing in 1971 is mediocre at best but to say he's a bad James Bond...eh. I'd say you're definitely in the global minority on that one.

Perhaps I misspoke. I didn’t mean to imply that Connery was a bad Bond; rather that the Bond movies he starred in were bad.

Connery's first three Bond movies were, in fact, the only really good ones made before the soft reboot with Craig. Certainly the only ones with any substantial influence on modern commercial cinema. They made the character and his various tropes household names, defined a film franchise and inspired a thousand imitators - including all Bond movies that follow.

Goldfinger is the master pattern for making James Bond movies. To this day.

Goldfinger is still my second-favorite Bond film behind On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I have such a soft spot for the groundbreaking elements of Dr. No it's ranked 6th on my list.

Pierce Brosnan is my favorite Bond but Skyfall is my favorite Bond movie. Also I miss the campy Roger Moore stuff because that was the Bond I watched the most as a kid.

On the subject of Guinan's attitude, I would argue that it makes perfect sense. Don't forget that we last met her in 1893; while we're after the Compromise of 1877 and the end of the Reconstruction, things might have generally seem on an upward trajectory for humanity from her point of view: progressive, populist and socialist movements were on the rise but not yet in power, giving hope that they might actually effect meaningful change. Despite Southern Democrat efforts to force black people out of the public sphere, the Wilmington massacre wouldn't happen for five years and the state constitutional amendments finalizing Jim Crow in most of the South wouldn't be passed for at least ten years. Also at this point, they have only recently found rubber in the Congo Basin, thus most of the atrocities committed by the Belgian colonial administration haven't happened yet either. For Guinan, everything might have seemed like a two steps forward, one step back situation where there might be some backlash against progress for some decades, but its tide would eventually wash it all away.

Cue the twentieth century, with not one but two world wars leading to almost a hundred million deaths including those millions being murdered on an industrial scale in the name of a totalitarian racist ethno-nationalist ideology, the world tearing itself in half with two power-hungry superpowers barely avoiding nuclear armageddon several times and causing untold amounts of human suffering by getting their proxies to fight each other for them, one side brutally oppressing its own people in the name of human progress, the other preaching equality, freedom and civil rights whilst propping up repressive far-right military dictatorships in every corner of the world, all the while the financial elites are fattening themselves on the resources they're stealing from the coming generations and actively murdering their own planet including the very people whose consumption they're dependent on in the name of profit, and when it finally looks like things are finally starting to get better, the power vacuum left by one of the superpowers leads to decades of ethnic conflict and even outright genocide, and the rise of modern social media and the 24-hour news cycle gives rise to a public sphere so toxic it practically breaks society apart, stifles any kind of progress and makes it glaringly obvious that humanity is on a fast track to repeat the same mistakes over and over, but in a more destructive fashion every time.

No wonder Guinan is writing Earth off as a lost cause.

I think Sol Rodriguez may have accidentally posted a spoiler on Twitter.

She posted a picture of herself next to Anne Wersching's Borg Queen on a stretcher. The Queen seems to have a gunshot wound. The episode 5 trailer shows what appears to be Jurati pulling a shotgun on the Queen.

So, even with their intervention they might have to travel again.

I'd almost bet on it. Because Guinan lived a very different life up to 2024 than she did in the "Time's Arrow" timeline. Or they leave it alone and use it as the reason why things are so different now in what is supposed to be the "Prime" timeline.
