You're bored by Patrick Stewart. That is just fucking bonkers. Some of the criticism for this show I'd understand, even if I wouldn't agree, but this is just such a bizarre take that there really isn't much to say. But if you feel that way, seriously, just stop watching. It is not for you, and neither probably is any drama aimed for human beings.

This still isnt a substantive answer.

But, even if I was "bored by Patrick Stewart", which is not exactly what I said, why would that be "bizarre" and "fucking bonkers"? If you are bored by Sir Patrick, why watch ANY drama? WTF does that even mean? This is the craziest take I've ever read about this show or ANY show. Ever. If you don't like this or his performance here, why watch anything? Whoa.

As it happens it is possible to think many dramas are far superior to ST: Picard. Yeah, I know. That's insane thing to say. It is not that Stewart is inherently boring, but the show is. Centering on the oldest, slowest, lowest energy character contributes to the already glacial pacing of the story. It doesn't have to be that way, though. Which was the point. This could be better.

Ive given these episodes 5/10, 5.5/10, etc. Not 0/10. They aren't unwatchable. But if I'm wasting my time, it is my time to waste, so don't worry about it.

That Q is absent is maybe the darkest, most foreboding aspect to this whole thing. It's like Picard is not even worth the trouble anymore. I'm pretty sure that the most prominent sign that this is the most hopeless of times is that Q can't even be bothered

Showing up to help is not what Q has ever been about.

What exactly do you think Tapestry, & All Good Things... are? I'll grant you that Q's idea of help is troubling at best, but no one can deny that ultimately the only thing Q was doing, coming around so often, was what he considered as help to an evolving race. The guy is literally obsessed with enlightening the human race, & specifically Picard, for whatever reason... except now. He's got nothing to say? That's grim

But he is, Picard's sin here is not one of Action, but rather of Inaction. He. Gave. Up.

He didn't continue to fight for the Romulans. He abandoned Raffi. He's not redeeming himself for what he did, but rather what he failed to do, by choice.

That's not inaction. He saved a huge number of them. Went the mat, staked his career on it by threatening to resign if they went ahead with cancelling the rescue mission. They accepted the resignation. With no fleet, I am not sure what more he could have done. He had to devote his whole civilian life to talking others into doing the right thing, or else he needs to be redeemed for it? Making him actually responsible for something that went wrong is what they should have written if they wanted a redemption story.

Plenty of people we all havent spoken to in many years, that is not "abandoning" you or you "abandoning" them. That was one of the more bizarre bits that they wrote in. We all have had people we were once very close to but dont see or speak to much anymore. There are alot of reasons for that when it happens. None of us need to be "redeemed" for that.

Behind the scenes:

"Mr Kurtzman! We finished the set for Picard's study at his vineyard!"
:shows it to him:
"Wow! This looks fantastic but... How much did it cost?!"
"Well... er...."
"You realize we're here for only three episodes and the rest of the show mostly takes place on the ship right? We're going to be way over budget!"
"Well... How about on the ship Picard uses a holodeck recreation of his study at home instead of a normal room on the ship?"
"Brilliant!"

I can deny Q's motives being to help an evolving race. Mostly he seems to be looking to be entertained, offer up some insults and ask for help on occasion. Help at best has always been a secondary concern of Q's. As for Tapestry, IMO, he was likely never even there.

I'm pretty sure they had this stuff worked out long before filming the first episode.

Perhaps this is all leading up to Q teaching the Federation the folly of the Prime Directive.

I always felt there was a purpose to every Q appearance, he hammed it up of course yet the Enterprise always seemed to benefit in the end.

Likely would have been cheaper to sell the compontents of the study and use that money for a $500 boardroom table and likely would have given nostalgists orgasms every time they saw him sitting at it.

He's too busy bothering Superman in a different reality.

This episode I liked the least so far. Not great, not terrible just meh....I actually got a little bored for the first time.

It was ok...I wouldn't mind the slow pacing but don't we only get a total of 8 episodes? This show is far better for binging then week to week in my opinion, partly because of the pacing....

What I liked? I loved seeing Seven!!! Its been almost 2 decades (well I do play STO so she is in that)
I loved seeing the damage on the TOS bird of prey. Loved it!

I didn't like the bar scene very much....

Have you ever made a series of grandiose promises to a large group of people including friends and coworkers who had previously depended on you and trusted you, failed to deliver, then disappeared from their lives leaving a mess in your wake?
