Ummmm.... that was an underlying thread in that movie.
Shinzon growing up with the Remans and being forced to work in the mines not only changed his outlook on life but also hardened his outward appearance.
Also, the temporal cloning procedure that was supposed to age him up quickly was never triggered, which is what was causing Shinzon to die, and thus require Picard's blood or DNA or whatever to save him.
And, to add insult to injury, the fact that the article has a picture of Benjamin Sisko (the archeologists reconstructing his profile made a simple mistake, it happens all the time) is lost on the Discovery crew just as well. All of them except Saru, who read up on Earth history at the Academy and doesn't understand why this Picard fellow looks like Gabriel Bell.

The entire first season all we know is that ex-Imperials wanted "The Child" and it was all about Mando keeping him away from them, but never found out why he was wanted, etc.
In four episodes Picard already has more development than Mandolorian had in an entire season
I don’t know. They kept the destruction so they could do their stupid Brexit similarities.
The events of the destruction just don’t match what was given before hand.

Yup, I've watched The Mandalorian and wasn't too impressed, mainly for that reason. I'm really quite enjoying Picard and I've been waking up at 5 AM to watch before work and then watch again the same evening LOL .
I was in no hurry for Mandalorian after the first 3 and watched some episodes weeks later. There was stuff I liked here and there, but I found it overrated.
Did the Vulcans help out the Romulans or were they were stoic about the whole thing. We know that Spock did try to help but what about the Vulcan high command ? Maybe we could find out more in the coming episodes.

Except the Romulans were growing stale as villains in the TNG era, there was never a well developed Romulan reoccurring character, all they seemed to do in TNG is try to do something sneaky, get foiled by the Enterprise crew, slunk away and did the same thing a few months later. Of all the Star Trek civilizations, they were the least developed. I am glad Romulus was destroyed, it gives the Romulans more pathos and them being nomads sets them apart from the Klingons or Cardassians. Reversing the destruction of Romulus would be a huge cheat. This is the most interesting the Romulans have been in a long while.
The Romulans have forsaken the Gospel of the Bowl Cut.
I give it an 8 just for the Romulan nuns, the fighting Elf, and the ending
Except that is how they were presented as in TNG and why couldn't they be made into a more compelling civilization? I would rather Romulus blow up to give the Romulans something more interesting to do, rather than keep Romulus around due to misguided Continuity Porn. Romulus blew up in Star Trek 09, that is an interesting story to deal with, ignoring just to go back to the status quo is boring, IMO.
I’m not sure how to react to this episode. The idea of a Romulan samurai is kinda cool but also a little silly.
I like the emotional themes and exploration of Picard’s mistake and regret.

The destruction of Romulus was dumb but Picard made it into something awesome. Something that really tests Federation morals and creates a complicated refugee situation with real world parallels.
