No, it was there to show us his apathy. Apathy and Badassery are two different things.

Same difference. He is not in it for your Revolution princess! He's in it for the money! Or the detached coolness about inner pains he cannot discuss...or whatever

wow this was so much better than last week and that engage moment

... along with the Goldsmith music... classic!
:techman:

These people don't know how to write him. They just don't. It's something we'll have to get used to and ascribe to 'well, he's older now,' but for now it just annoys me. And that flashback was 2385...5 years after Nemesis, and it still wasn't like Picard. But oh well....this is a new world. But if we're going to put a practical reason to it, I guess they needed to establish a very specific thing in that short scene, and they did it.
You're not taking into account as to how badly Data's death affected Picard.
Of course he would act differently, after that.

When somebody that close to you dies, you spend a great deal of time on introspection as to what you could have done different and it effects all of your decisions from then on.

I don’t think Data’s would have affected him that much. Picard has lost many friends over the years.

Solo doesn't feign apathy. He feigns all-consuming self-interest. His whole speech was "Screw your war, I'm here for me, me, me and me."

He sure does fake it. Indifference is what "screw your war" means. He cares more about what is in it for him. But, this mook does not live up to that.

Agnes is 100% spying on behalf of Oh/Starfleet Intelligence/the Tal Shiar at the end. We don't see anything that happens with her after Oh shows up at Daystrom, and then she just appears conveniently to save Picard from a Romulan hit squad that came out of nowhere.

I believed her when she said she's a bad liar, and I further believe that she didn't tell Oh she was joining Picard's mission...because Oh told her to do that. The whole attack on the chateau was staged to get Agnes in.

I get wanting to have the cool, ship-for-hire captain. But this guy is a dud for me. A poser. Hopefully someone will blow him out an airlock and someone better takes command.
