So I take it this Cloud planet is Middle Earth? That explains the elf.
I'm not sure.
I got the impression from next weeks preview that FREECLOUD is where Maddox is supposedly hiding, not where Elnor is.
(Picard asks Elnor to come with them them)
Also, Raffi didn't say that FREECLOUD was a Planet, it might be a space station of some sort.

The planet where they pick up Elnor and see the Romulan Refugees seemed to be a different place.

Anyone catch what that piece of encrypted data Raffi discovered in Picard’s dataset said?

Better than last week, though the writing still makes me cringe sometimes. I wish they could've gotten some of the TNG writers to do this, but of course they're doing The Orville. If last week was a 6, I'll give this a 7. But we're finally off and running.

Oh, and for a minute there I was like "No, do NOT kill the Romulan housekeepers! Aside from Picard they are literally the best thing about this show so you better not!!!"

I don't know. I'm not going to sit here and act enthusiastic. All I can say is that I still need to see where we're going with this before I judge it. I loathed Discovery. I don't loathe this. But I also don't love it. I'm simply.....curious. I just want to feel like I'm watching it for more than to see Picard again....and I'm waiting for the show to give me that reason.

And the difference should be trivial to Starfleet who are afraid of advanced AIs. We know EMHs are already used for labor just like the synths. Furthermore, holos are just as dangerous potentially, Starfleet surely remembers Moriarty.

I'm sure safeguards have been put in place. A lot easier to kill the light source than to stop an actual physical android. And given we've seen multiple holograms now, they must be excluded from the ban. I can make the distinction and wasn't jarring at all.

I'm not sure.

I got the feeling FREECLOUD is a station or some virtual realm.

Yes, it was the word FREECLOUD and a bunch of red gambling dice rolling around.
That's why I think FREECLOUD is a station (a Casino?), not a planet.

Any takers wanna bet that FREECLOUD is run by the Ferengi?
;)

Captain Rios used a voice command to shut off his EMH, not something I would imagine that would necessarily work on a Synth.
Also, EMH's only work were there are built in emitters in the room.

Wasn’t really a fan of this episode. Found it rather dull. Probably should have released all 3 as one. 5/10
The flashback at the beginning just didn’t sound like Picard. I’m not talking about his voice which sounded older. I mean his character. I just don’t see him giving up that easily. Kirk wouldn’t have.
Reminds me of what they did to Luke in Star Wars. Hopefully his fate is better.
The ship design is fine but it looks like something from the Wipeout video game. I wish they would tone down the holograms a bit. Just shouts generic sci fi to me. There was nothing wrong with physical consoles with LCARs.

I'm not sure that Romulan colony is on or related to Freecloud. From the ad Raffi saw that included women and gambling, I kinda got the impression that Freecloud might be a seedy place. Also, it seems like they have to get back to Earth again soon - to have the Picard-Seven conversation seen in the trailers, so I'm not sure if they're getting to Freecloud next week.

I kinda wonder if this episode gave some credence to the Romulans are synths theory. Hugh said these were the only Romulans assimilated by the Borg (not sure if he meant EVER), but it seems like their assimilation crippled the Borg ship enough for the Collective to cut the ship off.

Thought the EMH and ENH were a nice touch. I guess it make sense if Rios is alone on that ship to have emergency holograms for various functions.

The preview for next week also gave me a little bit of a Firefly vibe. Dunno why, just seemed that way. So I'm looking forward to it.

So far, the pirate-ish captain guy is not to my liking. I guess the hunk of metal in his shoulder was supposed to show us his cool, Han Solo, bad assery. But felt like the show trying too hard to convince us of his cool, Han Solo, bad assery.

wow this was so much better than last week and that engage moment

Three weeks in and it feels like we're finally done the intro and can start the show.

Unfortunately the preview looked pretty generic and boring.

It's a shame that the two Romulan helpers aren't tagging along. I really liked them. I was afraid one or the other was going to get killed during the assault on the chateau.

These people don't know how to write him. They just don't. It's something we'll have to get used to and ascribe to 'well, he's older now,' but for now it just annoys me. And that flashback was 2385...5 years after Nemesis, and it still wasn't like Picard. But oh well....this is a new world. But if we're going to put a practical reason to it, I guess they needed to establish a very specific thing in that short scene, and they did it.

No, it was there to show us his apathy. Apathy and Badassery are two different things. The pain doesn't register for this guy because he's already got a bellyful of it. That's not Solo in the least.

agreed. It sounds to me like a holographic pleasure planet or station run by ferengi lol
