Star Trek Equinox

Urm, could you edit that so it's clear I'm quoting, not talking for them. Thanks. :)

Sorry about that Nick, We all know a line like that would never come from you. :)

Echoing the sentiments from prior posts, you really need to have all your ducks lined up correctly before attempting to do a Kickstarter. While it is important to have the right people to make the actual film it is critically important that you have the right PR person(s)! Without that , you're project is not going to get any funding.

To write that you need money from fans to go a convention is beyond unprofessional and borders on corrupt IMO. :wtf:

I will say what I always say... the overwhelming majority of people who announce plans to make fan films never produce a film.

How Not To 101.

Some colleagues and I are taking about possibly Kickstartering a film project, and if we do the pitch won't much resemble most such videos, because we'll treat the pitch itself as a film and give it as much production value as we'd give the film itself.

That's exactly why EQUINOX's people are so desperate after money. They do not seem to have anything up their sleeves besides seemingly good will. And even that seems questionable to say the least...

They need money to even produce a trailer, because that's what they call pitching.

At least this is how I read this...

IIRC they initially claimed (in their first or second fundraiser) that they have the movie financed and just need money to produce a "fan edit". I wonder where all that money went. It seems in fact they didn´t even have enough money to produce a decent trailer.

...Or for a cup of coffee at Comic Con! Lockwood is going to starve for sure. ;)

If you don't have the cash to producer a trailer then you shouldn't be in the business.

It's called a "fan film" for a reason. People like Alec and James are spending a lot of their own money to get things rolling and the Kickstarters are supplements to that. I don't expect anyone to mortgage their homes or go bankrupt funding these projects, but if you go in with the attitude that you can cover all your expenses with a Kickstarter you're looking at things bassackwards in my humble opinion.

Yep.

People like James, and Alec, and Vic are doing this because they love Star Trek. These are people who have wanted to sit in the big chair on the Enterprise since they were kids.

There's a passion for the subject matter that I'm not seeing from Equinox.

It has been taken down, but at one time there was a Steve Neill's Garage segment on this group, and I thought it explained pretty much what this was all about. At any rate, what will be will be.

I was looking at the Equinox site and store yesterday, the only thing it made me think was stop now before you ruin it for everyone.

No good can come from fan productions like this.

When I look at Axanar I just think holy crap when can I see this it looks awesome.

The links I tried for their "store" are all dead.

Good, it was blatant merchandising. I am surprised it took as long as it did for their cease and desist to be issued.

EDIT: It seems to still be there called a "donation page"

I agree!

Where is Gary Mitchell sitting on the bridge??? Looks like next to the viewing screen since you can see the helm-nav console behind him, lol

A few observations on that trailer:
  1. No one appears to be where they're supposed to in the sets because they're slapping images up behind them without a thought as to where the camera would be on the set
  2. The heavily processed footage is a common trick to try to give a look to uninteresting or poorly shot footage.
  3. The spacecraft shots are distorted, as if the footage was delivered in the wrong aspect ratio.
  4. Mr. Lockwood is phoning it in. Long Distance. Collect. On a bad line.
