Star Trek Equinox

Yeah I agree, at least he has some experience, which is more than many of us. Heck, he probably has more experience than Roberto Orci. ;)

In all fairness, I question of some of the decisions the Equinox team are making, and I don't think they're doing a great job of marketing themselves. I'm not sure I'd categorise it as dog-piling, but I can't say I find myself disagreeing with much of what's been said so far.

I guess to my mind it sort of becomes a matter of "what's the point?" if they launch a bad fundraising mechanism that fails (and thereby leads to the film not being produced) all that happens is that the naysayers get bragging rights that they were right. I admit I'm also not fully informed on the matter in terms of this particular project (Equinox) beyond the fact that Gary Lockwood has not aged all that gracefully and that there might be more to it than I currently am knowledgeable about, but based on what I know at the moment, it just struck me that everyone in this thread has been critical (fairly) but also some vocies popping out (who really have no cause to) as intentionally demeaning.

I agree, people could often be a bit more diplomatic with their criticism though. :)

I think you'll agree with me that I am the last person to dispute that assertion... a skill I am working on slowly but working on nonetheless.

I don't think that's unfair either. But hey, people like to talk. As always, it's best to stay polite and stick to the facts. :)

I am sayin' nuthin'. Glass houses and all that. :)

My concern is that they're asking for money to make a trailer, which they'll apparently use to ask for more money.

This is how Eric approaches things, trying to soak up the hype and press without putting the proper foundation work into the project. To many people dream but can not execute, that is a problem I see all the time in this field.

Well, they said we fans would be "flipping" if we knew who would be directing - and I just said I ain´t and also why I ain´t. I am not a fan of this sort of exaggeration.

The guy may in fact be a great director, but I would leave that evaluation to after I´ve seen what he has directed.

I also have no problem giving somebody money to produce something I like, but I´d like to see something first that they have done so far. Namedropping is nice, but doesn´t prove anything. I think that is the 5th (failed) fundraising they have now, which is sort of amazing in itself.

Equinox claims they have a paid crew working on the project for 9 months - and if the latest trailer is all they could come up with during that time, I seriously doubt they are able to complete a full movie to the standards they have set upon themselves (pilot and all that...).

Just for the record, I'm all for people making the films they want to make. I don't care if Mr. Lockwood has "aged gracefully" or not. It's when people ask for tens of thousands of dollars to make a trailer (presumably to use for more fundraising) that the warning alarms start going off.

Oh. Well that's a bit of a pickle and one I wasn't aware of. I would tend to agree, Maurice that that kind of situation does present a difficult and slippery slope.

I Googled Eric Nyenhuis and saw a bunch of things on him. Also, why have so many people and production companies joined and left this project? Too many things off about this imo.

Wrestling promotion irregularities, sex tape, celebrity car shenanigans, dorky youtube audition vids with wannabee goombahs ? ...

Just your average everyday Star Trek fan film producer...:rommie:

(Or, more seriously: my spider-sense is REALLY tingling!!)

I'd guess the best pitch for a new TV Series would be like:

"Hey, there's a whole bunch of veteran actors who performed once in one of the thousand Star Trek episodes. They all WANT TO WORK.
Now put them all together, let there be some CGI Magic. You can save some dollars, because they are having sooo much fun doing it, that it would cost you near to nothing. Put some script assigments out there, specify that there must be some references to older Star Trek episodes - and there you have it. STAR TREK SOMETHING - To boldly show what always has been beneath the stone!"

Oh, I would predict some kickstarter regressions..

I realize his name is uncommon, but are you sure it's the same guy in Equinox and all this other stuff?

The Equinox group currently has a new Kickstarter campaign to get post-production funding for their first trailer (they call it their ''KHAN-starter'' because I guess Kirk-starter has already been used? :) )

With 17 days to go they've raised a fifth of their 5000$ goal.

On their main video they do have some new FX footage, but I find it funny how they keep avoiding to mention any plot points (like How and why the hell does Rudy Ransom go from Voyager-era and end up in TOS time?'').

Pardon my French but FUCK this noise. Seriously? They want people to give them money so they can make a trailer?

Apparently they have footage that was shot on the Phase II sets, but they lack the resources to actually edit it.

What bugs me about this group and their production the most is that they are going about selling their film the completely wrong way: Yesterday I looked at their Facebook page (which is how I found out they had a Kickstarter at the moment) and their way of getting support is to bellow out: ''we've worked an awful lot over the last year, and everybody's doing a great job!''

They'd get a lot more mileage if they used more showbiz savvy and sell the project and its premise, which hopefully is a good one.

Just look at Alec Peters and Axanar, we all know HE's working hard, but he made sure to start to sell it in the beginning with its intriguing concept and execution, and eventually what got it over the top was the amazing cast who got sold on the project as well.

As for Equinox, well I've googled a few links related to the project and I still know next to nothing about what its story is, how Ransom gets back in time and how and why Gary Mitchell came back from the dead, and what to expect during this film...

Jesus, even Star Trek 5 which is generally considered one of the weakest films had a tagline of ''the crew of the Enterprise go out to search for God!''. What we got wasn't quite that, but there was that at first.

They want mine and other Trek fans' money (well, at least the fans who don't eagerly swallow every P.T. Barnum line), they need to do better!

Looking at the KS page, So James Cawley is now the Ex Producer? And Savage will be in a episode of Phase II? Still, they just don't have the resources to get this done, both talent and money.

James Cawley is no longer involved, at least according to what's on their Facebook and Kickstarter pages.

James Cawley also came onboard as Executive Producer at NYCC 2014 (Unfortunately according to "King" he will not be able to participate due to his Elvis Touring schedule.
