Star Trek Equinox

The teaser isn't so bad, in my opinion.
Granted that they're just using the same generic bridge background shot for everything, it doesn't look terrible. Even as far as the VFX are concerned.

If it weren't for all the behind-the-scenes "political" issues with this fanfilm, I'd be reasonably excited to see how it panned out.

I've seen it also. Yeah, it's terrible. No way, there was ever to be a pitch for CBS.

And from what I've read on their facebook page, they don't want too heavily befriend other Star Trek projects...

The sentences the actors had to "perform" for the teaser - even in amateur projects you often spot childishness... that Equinox teaser was a perfect example.

It´s not bad for a fan-film.

But it is terrible as a trailer for a professionally produced project.

With no money does anyone know how hey are getting Savage and Lockwood to go along with this? I cant believe they are doing this pro-bono, well maybe I can believe with Lockwood, but not Savage.

I believe that it is actually Savage's project and Lockwood is doing it because his daughter is in the production.

I thought it was Eric Nyenhuis' (sorry if I misspelt that) project and he was the one who recruited Camren Burton (who was responsible for the audio production). At least that was my impression. It's entirely possible I'm mistaken. :)

I'll say this for it: it's made me anticipate Renegades just a little more.

Oh... know it makes perfect sense to me. I actually know Eric, he helped us promote our Hollywood Xpo convention back in 2010 and has a radio show. He is a bit 'too' ambitious with things and can be over the top at times. He is a good guy but dreams a little to big without the proper execution. He pitched to me several grand convention ideas but they ended up being a bit unrealistic. Anyways, Savage is Eric's uncle so that's the only reason why John is doing this.

In the comments about this project on Treknews.net there was one by the guy behind the film:

I can tell you anything you see be promoted RIGHT NOW will NOT be in the final product. I hate green screen, but what we did have to do was create a BUZZ and not give away what were doing. What you're seeing here on the website and any where else on the internet was just for the press and for the fans to wrap their creative minds around and in NO WAY is this going to be in anyway cheezy. As when you see whom is directing and shooting this your going to FLIP, as you may or may not know there is ZERO room for error and again just wait this isnt going to be what you THINK IT IS

So what he's saying is not to worry about how terrible it looks because that's just done to get people excited and when they actually make it it will be brilliant. Somehow it doesn't give me a lot of confidence.

I´m not exactly FLIPping about their director, a guy who seems to have a lot of experience as set production assistant and almost none in directing (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2029847/)

And that budget sheet they have on their site is very strange. 30.000$ for set rental - costumes only 3.500$ and the CGI gets only 2.500$.... Something seems to be very off-balance here.

Meh. Most people directing fan films have no actual, professional experience as directors, so I don't see the problem, especially given how much everyone has been dog-piling on this particular production.

At least the guy works in the industry and clearly has the resume to back it up. God forbid he was able to absorb anything or learn from his time on set around episode and film directors; if all the naysayers here are right and the thing never gets done, I don't really see the point in questioning the guy's ability.

Yeah I agree, at least he has some experience, which is more than many of us. Heck, he probably has more experience than Roberto Orci. ;)

In all fairness, I question of some of the decisions the Equinox team are making, and I don't think they're doing a great job of marketing themselves. I'm not sure I'd categorise it as dog-piling, but I can't say I find myself disagreeing with much of what's been said so far.

I agree, people could often be a bit more diplomatic with their criticism though. :)
