Star Trek Enterprise Relaunch Novels

^ That's really funny. I've always thought the DS9 parts were great and the Gamma parts were crap.

Have you considered pitching novels solo? I'd love to read them.

I thought the books were just as bad with Mangels involved

DS9: Cathedral (Mission Gamma 3) was co-written by him and pretty painful to get through (the MG parts anyway).

Well, glad you didn't find MY work that painful then. :techman:

Seriously, I much preferred the DS9 parts of Cathedral. Loved the intrigue/drama. The Quark/Ro stuff also added some nice humour.

The Gamma stuff was painful to get through. The only Gamma stuff I liked was in the last book.

Me too. (They really need a raises hand smileie).

Oh look, another day, another "I'm not attacking them for having gay characters but..." driveby from Bishop76, who, of course, blames any poor writing on the gay author.

No, in all fairness I said the books were just as bad, not worse. I haven't like them any more or less without you involved.

Because it's inconceivable to him that, just perhaps, Mike may have had a part in the characters as well. Bishop's ignorance is especially interesting here in that the character singled out for ridicule (Trip's brother) was Mike's idea (as I recall), and I believe solely written by Mike in every scene he's ever appeared in.

Actually, if you read my posts, I didn't have a problem with that at all. In fact, I pointed it out as one of the natural, unforced, inclusions of a gay character (though I did forget it was his brother rather than his sister).

I have enjoyed all the books by Mike and Andy, regardless of whether they wrote together or alone.

And it really pisses me off when people like Bishop76 make their arguments. There's no "gay agenda" and as stated by Christopher upthread, Star Trek is about all-inclusion regardless of label. IMHO There shouldn't be societal labels for sexual differences. We are who we are and that should be that.

Andy, I really wish you'd come back to the Trek fold, regardless of whether you write with Mike or someone else, or write alone. The Trek universe is not quite as rich without your perspective. :D

Where as I have failed to read a few of their joint tales or sole novels and I've struggled with the others I have read. So much so that I have decided not to read any of the Enterprise relaunch novels and if either of them write any more solo novels or manage to repair their relationship, I'll be staying well away.

Each to their own.

I don't really know exactly what happened to sour their relationship and it really has no bearing on the matter since the Trek books are written either way.

I will keep buying Trek books until I die, the sun goes supernova or the Trek dies a horrible death, whichever comes first. I might not read all the books (not NF, at any rate) depending on what they cover, but I will keep reading, no matter who writes them.

Good for you, isn't it wonderful that we aren't all the same and enjoy other stuff from one another.

As for their relationship, I know it has no bearing on the matter, I was just saying, and I don't feel I need to explain myself, but I will.

As a duo, the books I've read that they both wrote together were slightly better than the solo stuff from Martin. Even because of this, I have decided to steer clear of any books written by Martin or Mangels as a solo effort or as a duo.

I picked up The Good that Men Do and Kobyashi Maru. I also got THE Kobyashi Maru (TOS) used in the mail in pretty good shape this week. That'll be a later read.

Not sure about picking up the Romulan War books. I don't know what the end game is for S&S. A series of RW books? A few? I'll determine whether I pick up RW books after I eventually read TGTMD and KM.
