SM-G vs. Faith? What could go wrong?
A human trained to suppress emotion and think logically? Burnham will be demoted to Lt and will become Number One.I'm actually looking more forward to the possibility of seeing Number One than I am Pike or Spock. Pike is just The Stoic Captain and Spock is Family Baggage & Drama.
Whereas Number One is a character who could've been fleshed out a lot more. Being as mathematically inclined and detached as she was supposed to be, she'd make for an interesting contrast to Burnham, either comparing notes or Burnham being more impulsive than Number One.
Plus DSC's original Number One meeting TOS's original Number One.
It will be another Landry. A Landry has to die every season. Sometimes twice a season. And they all look like Rekha Sharma.Field promotion after nameless security chief dies in season opener. And done.
Head Killy?Speaking of Tilly and the spore, maybe it carries MU traits and she will slowly begin to exhibit the personality of her MU counterpart.
Surely their t-shirts say "Big E?" Enter doesn't have the same ring to it as Disco. The only thing i want to see is the T-Shirt of the Enterprise and the T-Shirt of Discovery next to each other... ENTER DISCO
I see no resemblance to Milo Ventimiglia, personallyHe looks a bit like that bloke from Heroes, if you ask me...
Picard used them sparingly and each one is memorable because of it.
Plus Patrick the best.
SM-G vs. Faith? What could go wrong?
If the theme really is "science vs. faith" then there are only a few overarching options probably.
Ones that seem obvious to me:
1. Something like DS9's Bajoran element. A race with a deep spirituality is introduced, and the Federation is caught in the middle of how to deal with them on a galactic level for whatever reason.
2. Something like an Indiana Jones story, where a series of clues are uncovered that may lead to a discovery about the origins and purpose of the universe/life/etc.
My preference would be option 2. I've said several times that "The Chase" (TNG) could have been a great feature-length film or, in this case, an extended season arc. Think of the Indiana Jones format...where there is an artifact or a discovery waiting to be uncovered somewhere in the galaxy. There are clues and pieces to the puzzle spread across the quadrant on various worlds (great opportunity to go planet-to-planet with an overall arc approach instead of just "planet of the week because we're explorers"). There are competing factions who want to be the first to solve the mystery (so there's your conflict and sense of urgency). You need a far more thought-through plot and a far better ending than "The Chase" offered though. The ramifications of uncovering the mystery should be big with regard to science vs. faith. Perhaps a competing faction is motivated by such (think Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword in "Last Crusade").
I really think if you want the exploring / planet of the week kind of Trek with a modern spin and a season arc format...this is the way to go. And, it would be a nice departure from the "War and Mirror Universe" stuff that was done in S1.
Also- it would be relatively new for Star Trek. We've done war, revenge, time travel, exploring cuz we explore, and saving people....but rarely is Star Trek ever a "quest." I think the closest things were TVH and TFF. But I'm sure a 15-episode arc could be great for a "quest" style story.
I just hope it's not the usual "people of faith are ignorant morons," type storyline.
Im pretty sure in season two the writers will get lazy and just re-use quotes from Criminal Minds.I hope they let her be less wooden/Vulcan in S02. Also I hope the poetic monologues stop and are replaced by Captain's logs / personal logs from various crew members.
