A human trained to suppress emotion and think logically? Burnham will be demoted to Lt and will become Number One.
It will be another Landry. A Landry has to die every season. Sometimes twice a season. And they all look like Rekha Sharma.
The only thing i want to see is the T-Shirt of the Enterprise and the T-Shirt of Discovery next to each other... ENTER DISCO
I hear whispers that fans may find TJ Ramini - the actor who played Cross in Prison Break - to be quite.... fascinating.
If the theme really is "science vs. faith" then there are only a few overarching options probably. Ones that seem obvious to me: 1. Something like DS9's Bajoran element. A race with a deep spirituality is introduced, and the Federation is caught in the middle of how to deal with them on a galactic level for whatever reason. 2. Something like an Indiana Jones story, where a series of clues are uncovered that may lead to a discovery about the origins and purpose of the universe/life/etc. My preference would be option 2. I've said several times that "The Chase" (TNG) could have been a great feature-length film or, in this case, an extended season arc. Think of the Indiana Jones format...where there is an artifact or a discovery waiting to be uncovered somewhere in the galaxy. There are clues and pieces to the puzzle spread across the quadrant on various worlds (great opportunity to go planet-to-planet with an overall arc approach instead of just "planet of the week because we're explorers"). There are competing factions who want to be the first to solve the mystery (so there's your conflict and sense of urgency). You need a far more thought-through plot and a far better ending than "The Chase" offered though. The ramifications of uncovering the mystery should be big with regard to science vs. faith. Perhaps a competing faction is motivated by such (think Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword in "Last Crusade"). I really think if you want the exploring / planet of the week kind of Trek with a modern spin and a season arc format...this is the way to go. And, it would be a nice departure from the "War and Mirror Universe" stuff that was done in S1. Also- it would be relatively new for Star Trek. We've done war, revenge, time travel, exploring cuz we explore, and saving people....but rarely is Star Trek ever a "quest." I think the closest things were TVH and TFF. But I'm sure a 15-episode arc could be great for a "quest" style story.
I like this idea. I actually mentioned an archeology aspect for an animated show in the Future of Trek forum, so I really do like it. It is different and would be a fun ride.
I agree. I'd love to see a story that starts out with the two opposing philosophies and then shows, by the end, how they can both coexist and even compliment each other. I like the way "Contact" (Jodie Foster) handled it, for example. It would be a great opportunity to bury so much of the binary thinking we see in our culture these days.
