Yeah, this particular issue does seem like a legit nitpick.
I agree. I just don't think it took away from my enjoyment of the show nor would I go "bad writing" over this one aspect.
You know, this business with the Breen just makes me wish I could see Captain Boday and his transparent skull.
Yeah, that's been mentioned twice so far this season with it being a pivotal plot point last week. Seems like this scene was tailor made for Rhys to fanboy out at seeing a Connie show up. But, no, that didn't happen.

I do wonder if the ISS Enterprise stuff was going to be used in the Section 31 show when it was going to be a show and is just orphaned now. Disco Season 5 was already written and production material made before they started retooling it for a movie or had a solid idea of what the movie might be about.
This ep was more about characters than plot. I liked the backstory of Moll and L'ak. I liked that it started purely as a business relationship that changed over time. I thought it was cool that L'ak is Breen royalty who never really fit in.
I enjoyed Book's interactions with Moll and how they have very different views of her father. Moll definitely has the Prerequisite Tragic Past. (TM).
When Michael told Book about seeing him on her time shift "when we were happy"... ooh! All the feels! I'd like to see those 2 crazy kids back together.
Rayner offering a keg of booze was fun. It was also fun to see everyone brainstorming.
FWIW, I don't think Owo and Detmer have been written out. I think they're just taking the ISS Enterprise in, so maybe not in the next episode. I did think, "Kovich is going to have fun with an ISS ship!"

Oddly enough this episode contained my least-favorite elements of the first half of the season as well as a few of its best. Where it goes wrong in my eyes it's irritating but when it gets the drama and characters right it's a pleasurable and fun Trek ride. I neither dislike it nor love it, but it's definitely more good than disappointing.
The last two episodes have been really character driven, and I've always felt that Discovery is the most character focused of all the Star Trek shows. Sometimes that really works, sometimes not so much.
Also, who ever called this on the forum, I agree that we're going to see the ISS Enterprise back in the finale, all refitted like Discovery was and renamed USS Enterprise.

I gave the Episode an 8, since overall I did enjoy it, but I think criticizing the writers of this episode is valid.
The crew is faced with an enemy that just used a Krenim temporal weapon against them, and now they treat them like teenagers that stole from a convenience store. That just made the characters look dumb. Anything less then a fully armed assault team would be dereliction of duty at this point.
The topic about Burnham confirming that there are no shuttles and escape pods on board, and then an escape being done on a Terrain warp pod has already been extensively discussed here. I suppose a lawyer in court would argue that Burnham never mentioned warp pods. She also never mentioned runabouts, captain's yachts, and work bees, so what was the point of that line, other then to portray that there are no auxiliary craft on board?
That there was a line written where the warhead of a photon torpedo gets replaced by antimatter irritated me. Besides the transporter, the photon torpedo is fundamental Star Trek tech. One can expect that a professional writer understand the fantasy realm he/she is writing for. That was just poor research.
Then there were leaps of logic. They plaque mentioned that a Kelpian led a revolution against the Empire, and they immediately assume that it was Saru. Why? There was nothing there that would suggest that, it is almost racist to assume that no other Kelpian would be capable of such feats.
During the scan on the bridge they mention the two signatures on the bridge (Burnham and Book) and three in sickbay. Michael just assumes that the third is the clue? Why? It could have been a 3rd person, or some abject like a phaser or tricorder.
Michael just assumes that the clue must have been hidden in the transporter. Why? It could have been behind a bulkhead, or 1000 other places.
Everything related to the Breen I really enjoyed, so kudos there for fleshing them out. I also enjoyed the antagonist backstory.
