It would have been nice to get more of an idea what kind of damage was going on on Earth and how much of the debris was penetrating the planetary shields. It looked like pretty substantial rocks made it through the shield. Titan Colony is all messed up, but it was evacuated completely first. Mars and Jupiter Station must have been out of the line of fire.

I was wishing for this as well. I always love a good cutaway to panicked civilian throngs running in the streets. Gets me so emotional!

I was certain this was why Gray was sent to Trill, I thought that would be one of the planets imperiled in the finale and we'd have cutaways to him on the ground level.

This episode was a complete miss for me. I thought the season before the hiatus was really strong and the show's best start but most of the episodes after the hiatus were kind of disappointing (with the exception of last week's episode).

Once we learned that aliens were responsible for the DMA I knew they were going to stretch the plot until the finale, have the characters explain to the aliens what was happening, and then quickly wrap it up. And that's exactly what happened without any tension. So the DMA going towards Earth and Ni'var (if it was that large wouldn't it affect any other number of inhabited systems? - this was never mentioned. It was always Earth and Ni'Var - are there no other inhabited planets and stations in between these two planets?) was just random and not a result of Tarka's explosion? So of all the random places the DMA could have gone in the galaxy it happens to only go to two founding federation member worlds (planets that aren't even close together)

There is something about how the characters continue to speak, act, and behave that feels so unnatural to me. I think of Janeway telling 7 something like she's part of the crew and she won't be left behind i during a realistic conversation (showing us federation values) while Disco would have Burnham deliver a long emotional speech while people move in slow motion about how everyone matters and federation values dictate that they won't...can't..leave anyone behind. It just feels cheap and corny at times and very hollow.

Tilly was hugging and celebrating with the bridge crew at the end. Have we even seen her really interact with them before?

Why did the Earth general face no consequences for sabotaging Discovery and putting everyone's lives at risk?

There's also something about the directing these last few episodes that has felt off. Like they just have everyone stand in a line and it makes things look uninteresting. Also, I'm not sure if they are making the best use of that AR Set...something about it when they are using it and how it always looks the same is not sitting right with me.

At one point, Discovery was my been my third favorite Trek series but now it's probably down to 7th.

Even some people who have been labelled woke are not to happy. My main concern would be who comes next. What happens when the next political guest appearance is someone a bit less noble or a bit more controversial amongst left wing fans.

Are you anticipating Ilhan Omar being on the show next season or something?

I'm the AOC/Sanders wing. I only voted for Biden in 2020 because I liked the obvious alternative less. If the Green Party were viable, I'd vote for them instead of the Democrats.

With those credentials out of the way: I don't care who they have on DSC for a politician as long as they're not Pro-Trump. I'll even do you one better: I thought it was cool that Reagan visited the set of TNG. I don't agree with his politics at all, but a former President on the set is a Big Deal... as long as it's not Trump.

I called when it when I said this crisis would bring the Federation back together. Not completely back to what it was before The Burn, but at least the Founding Members have returned. Where it matters the most, the Federation is back.

Picard said that as of First Contact, the Federation had 150 members. At the beginning of the fourth season of DSC, I think they said they had 60. So by the end of this season, and before they go into next, they've added some more, so the number of members will be roughly half what it was in TNG's time... which, for all intents and purposes, feels like Back to Status Quo (more or less) for a series that started in the TOS Era.

It would be kind of awesome if the political talk would be reserved for TNZ or wherever it otherwise belongs.

I come to the BBS to get away from all that, respectfully.
The Discovery showrunners included a popular political figure in the show. Albeit one who is a established Star Trek superfan, but that wasn't the only reason for her inclusion. We shouldn't get bogged down in real life policy minutiae to be sure, but acknowledging who she is and what the appearance represents is perfectly fine.

Sometimes Trek series get political. The Picard series is doing so right now, as well.

Star Trek is not about good writing. Easter eggs are more important.

Minor hyperbole.

ETA: But, I don't think the "we" in here is accurate. Largely because the bigger themes of Discovery are acceptable as long as the Easter eggs and tone are done "correctly" i.e. in line with past Trek feels.

Could not disagree more.

I appreciate having a conversation about it, but, just as an observation, you seem to challenge any naysaying about this show, no matter what is said.

The episodes polls posted here for every episode say otherwise.

It's just a vocal minority beeing more upset.

A "loud minority" is a given when there's a "silent majority". They can be ignored to the point they become trolls, then it's open season on trolls.

Not intentionally though I will comment if I don't agree. I'm more exploring different themes and curious as to the reaction based on my observations.

ETA: I am far more curious about people and their reactions and the whys. It's not meant to be argumentative as much as "Why am I enjoying this more than other?" It comes from a genuine place of bafflement and curiosity as to what is this alternate take. When I feel argumentative is when the writers get treated as punching bags, or emotions are regarded as bad. That sticks in me a little more negatively.

And the Federation probably had far more than 150 member worlds by the time of the Burn. With just 60 left but being in such decay and disarray it would stand to reason that a huge chunk of its 3070 Era membership broke away in the wake of the Burn and what's left by the time of Discovery's arrival in the late 32nd century is a very truncated and far tinier Federation akin to the dissolution of the British Empire.
