The rumors that the Starfleet Academy series would be set on "New Earth" have been circulating for a long time, definitely before season 3 aired and probably before the pandemic, in other words before season 4 was even written, given the DMA is supposed to be a pandemic analogy. I don't see how there could be a master plan to destroy Earth going that far back.

No, that's not true. I started early last year, I know that, cos I was the one who revealed it from leaked documents I obtained from an insider. Early last year was the time when Discovery season 4 had just been written.

So was Ronnie Rowe unavailable to film some this season or........will the Bryce and Kovich seed they planted come into play and save everyone?

‪‪I would guess Kovich will be back before the season’s end, but ‪‪I think this is the goodbye for Bryce. ‪‪I mentioned this a little ways back in the thread:

I believe this was Bryce’s exit from the series, as his portrayer, Ronnie Rowe, Jr., has gotten a role on the BET/CBC series The Porter that prevented him from being able to continue on Discovery.

Is it odd that they only mention Earth, Nivar and (in the last discussion) Titan? Surely if it's threatening them it will also threaten Alpha Centauri, Mars, Luna, the Vulcan lunar colony on Vulcan's sister planet, very possibly Tau Ceti, Andor and Tellar...

You know the last time someone tried to pierce the Galactic Barrier, at least nine people died, and two people ended up getting super freaky cosmic powers. One of them even thought he was a god.

That wasn't the last time...

Shouldn’t they put all telepathic species in stasis before going in? Seems rather reckless

Maybe they have countermeasures for those effects now? It would be nice to think they've made some advances in 900 years...

There's more than one Galactic barrier.

No, just one galactic barrier (the barrier you have to cross to leave the galaxy), and one great barrier (the barrier towards the center of the galaxy you have to cross to get to "God's" prison planet).

And if they actually reached that point in Final Frontier that would be Trek's single largest error on how fast those starships can travel (that's using what people believed about the structure of the galaxy at the time episodes or films aired).

I like to think that the great barrier creates sporadic wormholes leading to it that one can somewhat predict.

I’m just reminded of the Q Continuum novels. This is going to release Null. :)

Also the baddie from the Shatnerverse novels.

they air an hour a part in Canada, so I'll have 2 hours of Trek in a row.

...and then we go online for Ready Room.

-Really....a Gillian's Island reference 1,225 years after the show ended?

Classic sitcoms are the Shakespeare of the 32nd century.

Perhaps because of the subspace damage caused by the Burn and the Gorn

What did the Gorn do to subspace?

Heh ... for a guy who seemingly hates the show, you sure do spend an awful lot of time putting together numerous lengthy posts with multiple pic's all about it.

Is your life that boring that you can't find something you LIKE, to talk about?

I'm going to be harsh, and I'm sorry if I ruffle any feathers here, but I'm giving this episode my lowest grade of the season, which will be a 3

This show is stalling and I'm frustrated by that. All this character work could have been done earlier and now we are 3 episodes left before the end of the season. I appreciated getting Tarka's backstory, but we've kind of heard it already when we first met the guy. This was a 50 minute soap opera drama about feelings and the theme of making connections but I'm like "Let's get on with it already". They've spent the last several episodes developing this alien race and we still haven't met them yet.

Also, when they said that no Starship has ever left the Galaxy, The Enterprise did it in Star Trek 5. I think the only thing I liked about this episode was they finally made the Galactic Barrier threatening as promised in Star Trek 5. However, since we're at the end of the season and Picard starts in a week and I've actually started to get excited for the premiere of Picard, having this episode continue the stalling this season is doing is not good for priorities for next week's viewing.

This season is like watching a CW show and getting frustrated that ever since the Christmas Break there is a feeling of the show treading water until the last possible moment. The Flash was like this when we first met Nora and now Discovery is getting to be like this as well. Let's get on with it and start defeating this thing.
Agreed. Same issue with season 2 & 3 and I'm guessing season 5 will be no different. I'm tired of the melodrama on Discovery. How many scenes do we need with Burnham and the President have a quiet talk together? What acting award are they looking for here?
Season 4 is an improvement over season 3 and I was liking the change in tone but now they're falling back to their old ways.

Earth will get destroyed, mark my words.
I'd be tempted to drop the show if they did that. Not because they destroy Earth but because it's another way the show has tried and failed to reinvent itself. We sent them to the 32nd century, we decimated most of the Federation, how much more do they want to change just for the sake of "making the show and our characters grow"?

I'd guess that for dramatic reasons, they didn't want to spend a bunch of unnecessary screen time going through a laundry list of worlds that could be threatened.

Would have to agree there.

As would I.

Is this what it's come to? TNG tried to convince us we shouldn't grieve over a parent's death ("The Bonding"), now we're not allowed to be attached TO OUR HOME PLANET?!? What the :censored: is that all about? What, does Earth deserve to be destroyed because it left the Federation? Book, understandably, gets to grieve over the loss of Kwejian, but Discovery's human crewmembers are supposed to just sit back and :censored:ing TAKE it? Is DSC now so far in the future that the very concept of a home planet is obsolete? Not even GR, in all of his late-80's psychobabble lunacy, would have gone this far.

Besides, we almost never visit Earth in Trek anyway. Why destroy a planet that we never see?

I like where they're going with this now, though the contrived ticking clock with it bearing down on Earth is a bit much. The backstory of what's his name leaving his friend behind to escape was well done. I was semi distracted so need to read a synopsis at some point before next week.

I just hope they don't spend all of next week literally outside the barrier while trying to figure out how to get inside. Only to have it end with them entering it.

True. It belongs to those space Dinosaurs we saw in Voyager.
Right...

More to the point if I took you and flung you in to the far future would you recognize Earth? I grew up in LA but when I travelled back after moving away for ten years it wasn't my city.

People have called this "stalling," and I have to agree. It's not suspenseful, so it's stalling. I watched this episode mostly distracted. I have hearing/processing issues, and I didn't get a lot of the dialog. But that's okay. I got the gist of it and I feel like the dialog that I missed would not have improved anything.

Still no 10-C. This season could've been done and dusted tonight and been a stronger, tighter product (albeit with all the typical overwrought trimmings). Instead, we've got three more frackin' episodes of this? Honestly, this is the most excruciating mystery box Discovery has unpacked.

Book and Tarkin were the only highlight of this episode. Put me in the minority, but Saru and Vulcan lady aren't setting my world on fire. All will be forgiven if next episode kicks off with the two of them throwing themselves back on a bed exhausted after a passionate night of pre-First Contact shagging.

Michael, sometimes I think the only reason I come here is to listen to these wonderful speeches of yours. Christ, I thought she was about to start rambling on about a gazelle she saw on a trip to East Africa when she gave Yet Another Speech to the crew & delegation before jumping.

As anticipated, Earth and Ni'Var now in the firing line - entirely expected in the stakes-raising department.

Tarkin's bunk buddy =/= 10-C. They wouldn't, would they? Surely not. Not after the kid last season ...

I don't know how to describe this show. It's just so Discovery. The Discovery-ness is just getting more ... Discovery. That's it. It's an adjective at this point.

Looking forward to next week.
Dude, I had the same thoughts. Have you ever watched Doctor Who? From like 2010 to 2018 or so they had this guy named Moffatt doing the stories. He always whiffed the season ending, especially when it was supposed to be a mystery. This feels like that.
Yeah, that fishhead guy, Sadavir's friend, is gonna have to be a 10-C.

if I took you and flung you in to the far future
Steady on there Superman. There will be no flinging anyone. I only travel by Delorean.

I grew up in LA but when I travelled back after moving away for ten years it wasn't my city.
Or maybe you weren't the same fireproof78

would you recognize Earth?
If they're still doing the same crap they're doing today and for the past few hundred years, then yes.
The more things change the more they stay the same type of thing.
