And Trek's had other changelings besides the Founders of the Dominion. Martia. Garth of Izar after he learned cellular metamorphosis from the inhabitants of Antos IV. Allasamorphs from "The Dauphin(TNG)."

The Changeling's face looked very much like one of the DS9 Changelings at the end. Though weird they'd still be looking like that 700 years after Odo. The other changelings only copied his look to make him feel more comfortable IIRC.

Lurians are all bald in the 32nd century when DS9 established Morn was only bald because of liquid latinum poisoning, so yeah, the newer series seem to be looking for visual nods and connections even if they don't make perfect sense.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Disco writers have been changing SFX for various things in Trek.
Its possible the Dominion Changelings evolved to include this type of sand-like transformation in the past 800 odd years.

Unless this is a new type of changeling.

If it's a changeling, they could potentially try to immitate other changeling's transformation process to look like them as a "Fake Out".

If the Dominion Changelings look like Golden Goo, and this sand like Changeling tries to mimic the Dominion Changelings to implicate them, there could be multiple layers of deception as to which Changeling is guilty in the room.

Yes, but this is Discovery we're talking about.
I wouldn't attribute THAT level of detail into their thinking.
Its more likely they just changed/update the SFX for the transformation sequence for the Dominion Changelings. They'd still end up in a gellatinous state like in Ds9, but the actual transformation might end up more sand like (similar to programmable matter - everyone is copying this effect).

It's clear from the face this is intended as a Changeling of The Founder / Odo variety. They've simply updated the morphing effect.

Okay, okay okay. I'm halfway to getting what I want, which is Detmer and Owo wrestling a Gorn. This is a good start. This is a very good start.

Loved the poker game. It makes me wish I could have seen Michael and Book's experience at Schaeffer colony (where Book lost his clothes, apparently), but this was the next best thing. Both SMG and David Ajala shine here, and they're very comfortable together. I had no trouble believing they were old hands at this kind of thing.

Hugh and Paul getting a few moments together was nice. Hugh clearly suffers from overachiever syndrome, even though he's unaware of it (unlike some of us). I hope they enjoyed their walk through the flowers.

So now we know species C10 is mining boronite, and the DMA isn't a weapon but a mining tool. Kind of scary AF when you imagine how much power is required to power and move such an object. I absolutely would not fuck with that species on any level involving using weapons against them.

This was enjoyable. Between the better, more comfortable character moments, and a little actual plot progress regarding the DMA and what it is, I give this episode a 7 out of 10.

One of the weaker ones this season. I liked everything going on around the away mission. The away mission, itself, just bored me to death. I really hate it when a card game is used to build tension. I have no idea how to play poker, so, I can't get on board with this to feel drama. Plus I just thought it carried on far too long. Overall, I just thought the episode really dragged.
