You end up in a pipe full of water connected to beer brewing tanks. Seems like a pretty ineffective means of getting about. ;)

I finally got back to my Season 4 DVD set, after months of having other demands on my time.
I really liked this. The "Tilly & co." plot took the "Galileo Seven" premise in an entirely different direction, and did it beautifully, in a way that provided plenty of tension without going too far, and the "diplomatic negotiations" plot featured some outside-the-box thinking to resolve an impasse.

Better on a rewatch!

This episode explains how rebuilding the Federation is quite a task, and sets the table for Starfleet Academy.

At first the young crew just seems especially touchy, but remove 100s of years of Federation style thinking and moderating it's no wonder they don't get along.

I think this element of rebuilding makes for an Academy premise I can get on board with.

I can also get behind Tilly being a better teacher because she's never going to make it to captain.

I'm giving an extra point for the hungry alien and production design. Taking a half point away for the living ice idea again, and come up with:

9 out of 10.
