the anomaly better not be another alien tantrum.

The fact that the anomaly is apparently changing direction in an unpredictable way, seems to imply some type of artificial construct. So yeah, I am definitely getting a V'Ger vibe where there is some artificial object at the center with an anomaly around it.

A soft 8. The Book stuff was good for me but the dynamics between some of the main characters seemed a little more forced and goofy this time and were distracting. Saru's return to the ship was very welcome and both he and Book elevated this episode at least 1 point higher than I'd probably otherwise give it.

If this is V'Ger 916 or so years after Will Decker merged with it to give it a bond with its creators then something has clearly gone wrong in its search for peace and knowledge in the centuries since. But my guess is it's not V'Ger.

Another 7 from me. It wasn't bad or anything and the slow pace is nice, but so far this season just doesn't grab me that much.

I doubt it is V'Ger. But it could be something similar. My theory is the anomaly is an advanced alien spacecraft from another galaxy. Perhaps there is an alien race that is so advanced that they can move an entire star system from one galaxy to another. So, the anomaly is an alien artificial star system wrapped in a gravitational anomaly to allow intergalactic travel. Having something the size of an entire star system with the gravitational warping to allow something that massive to move across galaxies, would explain the huge size (5 light years) and the extreme gravitational anomalies.

Yep. If you are so advanced that you can move an entire star system across galaxies, then you probably don't care about "puny" civilizations like the Federation. They would seem like ants to you. The anomaly could be the galactic equivalent to a u-haul truck that runs over an ant hill. They just move in with their "anomaly" and don't care if they destroy a few planets.

Book is suffering from Time War survivor's guilt. Like Dr. Who, he didn't give a beep about his people when they were alive, and now that they're gone he can't stop going on and on about them.

Or a living being, under its own power and moving under its own decision making process. I agree it could be artificial, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be.

But I don't think that's what it is. I like Book in this episode a lot. His reaction to grief is remarkably accurate.

I hope the V’ger vibes is a red herring. I really hope that whatever this… thing is, it actually stays a thing. The concept of the “Big Bad” being a natural phenomenon as opposed to a race, an entity or being is something we don’t see in Trek so often. And it’s a chance for a science vessel named Discovery to do its thing.

I remember a book, frim awhile ago, hard scifi. Basically a black hole was coming towards earth. But the black hole developed a consciousness from the debris in the acreation disc, or something. And it could change course. But that was controlling its relativistic jets.

Enjoyed the first two episodes well enough, right now I think Disco has definitely found its groove. I don't think I'm particularly wild about it, but that's another story.

Still, I do like that there is at least _some_ lip service paid to the constant trauma that Star Trek shows inflict upon the characters that live and work on starships. While Detmer's story was fairly low key last year and was resolved abruptly, it was still _something_. Now with Tilly and Aidra reeling from their near-miss on the station there's hope that an examination of their metal and emotional states will be less cursory.

I really enjoyed the gravitational hijinks, it might have been the first time on Star Trek TV that the crew faced even a passing loss of artificial gravity but holy hell, does the bridge have to SPIT FIRE every time something goes awry? Sparks can surely be enough to indicate to the audience that things are bad.

They apparently got rid of Book’s planet for character development and to bond him to the crew, which seems like on the nose, predictable writing. I also hope the latest disaster to threayen the universe is not some misunderstood alien whom they will persuade to stop eating planets in the last 15 minutes of the penultimate episode. I do like Book and Book’s cat and most most of the other characters, though I’d like to see more stories about the bridge crew like Detmer, Rhys, Owo and Nilson, who I hope gets.a first name. Also more Zora.
