I think it would be interesting to see the Discovery crew split up at the end of the season and sent to different 32nd century ships and have Discovery retrofitted with current 32nd century technology.

It also occurred to me that Discovery contacting the Federation in the 32nd century was probably the worst thing to do if they ever wanted to go back to the 23rd century. If they had sneaked around, stolen a time crystal (assuming they weren't all destroyed, but even then a Federation ban on time travel wouldn't extend to Klingons, etc.) and rebuilt the red angel suit from blueprints in their computer, or even stolen the equations for the slingshot maneuver, they could have gone back home and no one would have known or tried to stop them.

Now that Admiral Vance has conclusively found that Discovery was listed as destroyed in the 23rd century, he'll never let them go back in time, even outside of the time travel ban, as it would alter the past thousand years.
I think you missed the part where they were never planning on going back.

Okay gang, looks like we got ourselves a mystery.

What or who caused the Burn?
Why didn't the Away team re-materialize in the Mirror Universe? All those ions...

Georgiou blinks holograms away! Oh my ******* word. Michelle Yeoh slays me!!!
So the Terran Empire collapsed? Or is that what they want us to think?

RENO: Meh. Looks like a big reset button.
STAMETS: Why did you join Starfleet???

Terrific episode.

By the way, I think you all have to rendezvous at the Devil's Tower in Wyoming...

2) Nhan's actor was promoted to regular this season and now she's gone. It's nice to see some insight into their species. I don't think we knew anything more than that they had an unstable wormhole. Does this open up a spot for either Adira Tal or Cleaveland Booker to be a regular?

I'm guessing that she'll be back later in the season since it doesn't make sense for them to promote her to regular status for three early season episodes. Perhaps one thread this season would be to bring back Earth, Trill and Barzan (along with other worlds/species from subsequent episodes) to rejoin the Federation or help in some other way.

It looks like the only regulars contracted to appear in all the opening credits are Martin-Green, Jones, Rapp and Wiseman, since the latter three were credited in the premiere without appearing in the episode itself.

I assume the other regulars Cruz, Ancheril, Ajala and ("Special Guest Star") Yeoh are contracted for a specific number of episodes so they needed to come up with a way for them to be absent for a number of episodes each season to save on cost.

Also what the heck is up with 32nd Century holograms?

They felt like they were less advanced then the Doctor....

Not hard to imagine some knowledge and technology being lost with time when you don't have as large a pool of minds and resources to draw on.

The music industry, for instance, is right now struggling to meet the demand for new vinyl records, both in terms of quantity and quality control because the existing record press machines are older and there aren't as many people around who understand how they work and how to operate them.

A few more things:
  • Cronenberg is an intriguing character. I'm calling it now: I think he knows more about The Burn than anyone else. He's going to be an obstacle.
  • Admiral Vance seems to me as if he's going to be like Skinner from The X-Files.
  • Voyager was the first Starfleet ship to travel across the Delta Quadrant. It deserves the recognition. Bear in mind, I say this as a non-fan of VOY. Credit in the Star Trek Universe where credit is due.

It has been established in the episode "Crossover" (DS9) that the Terran Empire collapsed in the years between 2267 and 2371. What is more interesting is that the distance between the two universes has been expanding, making it impossible for someone to cross over, and vice versa.

Lord Garth,
For those who don't know The X-Files, who is Skinner?

He's who Agents Mulder and Scully reported to. He was Assistant Director of the FBI, of which The X-Files was a division of. Scully was sent to keep an eye on "Spooky" Mulder and his "crazy" theories about extra-terrestrials. Scully would come around to Mulder's way of thinking, sort of. But Skinner was always the skeptic. He tolerated them.

I think Vance thinks a lot of Discovery's missions were wacky, but he's going to tolerate Discovery because they'll come through for him.

It was fine. But I think A-plot ultimately got buried under all the mystery boxing. It would have been better had it been the main focus.

Yeoh wins again.

Eh. There are instances where actors have been promoted to series regular only to be killed off by the end of the episode.

Or they didn't know what to do with her and dumped her. Gotham promoted the Harvey Dent actor to regular for one season and he only appeared in like 3-4 episodes, but was credited for the whole season. They didn't even write him out. He just disappeared. But sure got paid well for his non-services.

Booker is a regular, but only gets credited for episodes he appears in. He gets the "and" billing this season.

Last post for the night, morning, or whatever you want to call this, then I'm done.

More than ever, now I think the Federation and the V'Draysh are two different things. The V'Draysh came from some part of the 90% of the Federation that collapsed after The Burn and is completely separate from the remaining 10% that now makes up the "Dark Ages" post-Burn Federation.

The Doctor (and Data) are special that they managed to expand themselves beyond the limits of their programming and became the human-like beings they had become. I suppose most AI never managed to transform themselves to be sentient beings like them. And the planet where Data's descendants live seem to continue living in isolation that few lay people were aware about their existence.

The synth robots which destroyed Utopia Planitia in ''Picard'' also had limited capacity in their programming and were only able to do what they did after their programme was hijacked by the Zhat Vash operative.
